Title of the thread seems rude. I apologise in advance
I'd seen alot of nice photos posted by the members here. I really appreciate their contribution so newbie like me can learn. Can i assume that the photos contributed on CS are taken on your very first try or after numerous shots then you can find a ideal picture? What i mean is that you might have taken 10 shots of the same landscape and you only can find one that is nice or your photo will come out perfect on the very first shot?
And as newbie like me, even after 100 shots, still no satisfactory photos:bsmilie:

Yes sometimes have to make many in order to win just a few.

Work on getting exposure down pat. Good pictures follow that.

Ask UncleFai, a great bird shooter, how many exposures he made before he get a couple of shots that are good. That give you a clue...

I think that knowing some composition basics will help narrow down the number of shots.
At least thats what I try to apply.

That said, some shots can look good on a small LCD of the camera, but look meh on the larger monitor.
So there will always be a need to take from various angle variations and settings.
Also the fact that you'll be at the location maybe only once.

Most important: if even after 100 shots the result is not hat you expected, then it's time for the 'back to basics'.
What exactly do you want to show? What is important, what is not? There is no point repeating something without detailed review.

When first starting out, it is possible to take a large number of shots and no keepers .. but as you continue to shoot, learn and progeess, the number of shots you take will slowly reduce but at the same time your keeper rate will improve.

Just keep shooting. Eventually you will get there..

just shoot more. nowadays memory card is reusable so just shoot more. if you stick to one shot one kill belief, you will be in for a long tough ride. select your one final shoot at the end of the session, process it and present it. This is also the same in the old film days. just google film contact sheets. even the masters in the film days do it.
