I'm interested in buying a semi-pro video camera to shoot in HD. My application is for my educational work and also to cover events and to record bands with musicians playing. And budget is 3k-3.5K. I roughly know that Sony HDR-XR520E costs about 2.8k. I'm looking at something that will produce better results.

you dont really need an expensive camera...what you need is good audio capture setup.

Well..I do have a good audio capture setup both digital interfaces like FP10 and a simple analog mixer. I have done video with SD and I dont find the quality appealing enough...and the process of video capture in real time with frame drops and stuff is quite a task.

May want to check out Canon's Legria range for price advantage. But the 520's low-light EXMOR CMOS and lanc control is pretty handy for events.

Thanks for your recommendation...Though I'm a fan of Canon I kind of like the samples posted on Youtube for the 520s and I'm drawn to sony mostly because the media is HDD. I'm not sure if HDD will fail me in due course though.

I've decided on the Sony HDR XR520E firstly because of the image quality results that I see on Youtube and what I've seen on a HDTV. The main feature that attracted me to get this is that its got 240GB HDD, good low light, opical stability not bad and a whole lot of other features which I like.

If anyone can suggest a better deal than this for the price range, please do before I purchase :). Thanks
