The eldest of the 3 brothers who started photo studio business was Tat Loon. He then brought his two younger brothers Tit Loon and Shui Loon to Singapore
From verbal history, Tat Loon was originally a portrait artist. He began fascinated with photography when he met up with a preacher who insisted that he learned the Bible in return for lessons in photography.
One of the original studio stands at the corner of Cross Street and South Bridge Road.I think it was Yung Fong.
Tin Seng was located at the corner of Purdue St and North Bridge Road. The location is now part of Raffles Hotel.
Tai Tung Studio(Great Eastern Photo Studio) as was originally called was located at Stamford Road.
From Tat Loon there were about a dozen children. Many of the sons died in childhood leaving three sons alive only, the eldest to start a studio in Bandung, the second to become one of the earliest graduates from the King Edward Vll Medical College at Sepoy Line. The third became the manager of Tien Seng
From Tit Loon, many of the descendants were involved in photography as well as those from Shui Loon, the number 3 who was the most prosperous of the children from the Old Man of the village Siew Wong Nei (officially known as Wong Kai,near Fatshan in Guangzhou)
The village stands as it has been for these years, the buildings belonging to the 2 younger brothers are still bthere but just as a husk. The house of Tat Loon has been refurbished since the early 1990's.
