This was a good will gesture from France on temporary display in 1998-1999.
In enjoyed great popularity, so a replica was made on the same spot as the temporary display in 2000.

The reason why I call Hie Shrine a 'little gem' is because its easily accessible (ie. near Asakasa stn), not frequented by tourists, rather big for a shrine, colorful/nice shrine and importantly, has quite a few of the things considered 'iconic' to a visit to Japan and one of its temples.
Like this series of red Torii leading up to the side entrance of the shrine.
No need to go to a more famous location like in Kyoto for example.
I would have missed this if I did not venture a bit more than the popping into the main shrine entrance, take a few shots and leave.
The side entrance does not look like much too until one gets close enough to see the leading steps and torii.

How can I miss this! Great shots all round.

Bernard, thanks for your kind comment.

Yes, its hard to spot.
One has to go to the back of the shrine, then walk to the left side till they see the stairs and torii.
Else its just another back area with nothing interesting at first glance.

The rain came and stopped and came again throughout.
I count myself lucky that there was a sunset at all and that there were periods of light rain for the shooting.

I missed the Flyer which is on the other side of this coast.
It was late and still raining when I headed back.
But certainly I had enough shots for the day.

Had a bit of spare time before closing the day, so I made my way to Tokyo Tower, trying to find a street that gave a leading view to it.
I was quite lucky to find one, but I suspect that there should be many other such streets since Tokyo Tower is quite the landmark in the area.

Wow... great series... Camping here for more photos.
Love your write ups on finding these lesser knowns locations. where was this thread when i visited Tokyo?! already feel like revisiting going thru these.

btw: u mentioned u aint really pleased with the sky for the gundam? well.. if u dont mind the extra processing.. maybe u can darken the skies further and throw in a fierce looking lightning bolt across the sky for a dramatic effect.. just my 2cents ;)

Thanks.
Tokyo in itself already has too much to cover.
I took some time to treat it as if I stayed there rather than rush to the usual tourist spots (ok.. I did go Sensoji and Meiji Jingu :D )

Man! the Gundam.... when I took it against the cloudy sky, it was actually still raining (which was the case for all the Odaiba shots).
My camera was weather sealed, but my lens was not and I did not want to end up field cleaning my lenses anyway.
Had to setup everything with camera pointed down so that the rain pelted on the camera back which is weather sealed, then when the settings and tripod are set, quickly mount the camera, point up and shoot. :D

I'll certainly play around with other processing options after I get thru processing all my tour photos.
Thx

Shiodome, is seldom on the tourist map.
Its just office buildings, but for the traveler where everything is fresh, it can provide lots of photo ops just by taking the many impressive office buildings in the area.
I happened to pass by during the non-landscape productive noon time, so grabbed a few shots in the shade.
The outside was too harsh for nice shots of office buildings, though I can imagine that it would be nice when the Sun is lower or towards Sunset or blue hour.

Thanks for popping by and glad you like the photos.
I sure missed that clock you mentioned, and thats one of the good things about pooling the inputs from others.
Maybe I or someone else reading can make use of the info another time.

As always very nice photos from you.

Rush to Shinjuku

Shinjuku again.
Don't even remember how many times I pass thru Shinjuku, since its a major interchange and activity area.
This is the west side IIRC, but a bit of a walk away.

This is from the bridge linking to Takashimaya Shinjuku.
Stuck there for an hour due to rain with no hope of golden hour, so ended up doing shopping instead.
There is a barrier over the bridge, so the tripod had to be dangled over it and 'clamped down' with the tripod legs.
Trains ply between the further reaches of Tokyo and beyond from Shinjuku station so its a busy point and with no lack of trains coming in and out..

Another Tokyo Tower shot from the surrounding streets.
This time, theres a small shrine below, it was closed for the night though.
As mentioned before, I'd think there are more of such streets.
I stayed in the Akanebashi area, so walked towards the tower from there, so I'd guess thats really scratching the surface when it comes to view of the tower, since one can also approach from Daimon (a leading path to Zojoji temple and the Tower behind it) and many others.

Kamakura was the only off Tokyo trip I took.
I wanted to go somewhere off the city where there would be views of temples and shrines that was undisturbed with skyscrapers in the background.
Also did not want to waste too much time travelling far and arranging for overnight accommodations.
So Kamakura came up as the ideal choice since its often called 'little Kyoto'

I failed to plan for this trip well, which was my undoing.
The weather report mentioned poor weather, but I decided to press ahead worrying that the days ahead would be worse.
I woke up later than usual and to add to the lateness, bad train info I took from a website made me wait unnecessarily long for the train.
In hindsight, I think this place is worth a stay over and probably will be at its height of beauty in spring or autumn.
