Hi Kohanson, can u advise why did you choose f11, f16 for the aperture?

Assuming all other settings remain, but a wider aperture is used, the result is a brighter pic overall?

The reasons for using f11 & f16 is to get a larger depth of field throughout the whole photo. The nearer objects like maybe a meter away from you will be clear at around f8 - f11. Another reason for using f11 is to have the starburst effect on the street lamps and lights. at wider aperture, the starbursts will look different or maybe it will just look like a glowing ball. Another reason for using narrow aperture is because I want a longer exposure for the trailing lights of the cars. If by using a much narrow aperture like f16 - f22, the depth of field will increase but will cause the images to be less sharp.

Yes, you are correct. If all other settings remain, and you use a wider aperture, the result will be an overexposed pic and cannot be corrected later. Details might also be lost.

Thank you very much for taking time to explain! :)

I am rather surprise for your sharp images. I thought bridge vibration and winds will create blurishness. Not to mention the orangy street lamps.

I actually switched off IS for all my night shots and I am using the noob free tripod :bsmilie: The images have been sharpen by photoshop using unsharp mask.

hey bro can explain why you switch off IS? I thgt IS will come in handy in these situations?

I have read somewhere that by switching on IS, it might make the sensor think that you are shaking even though you are not and might cause slight image blur. Anyone can confirm this? Switching off IS will also save battery power if the battery is going flat soon.

yes, when on a tripod and IS on, some times the lens will auto correct "movement" when in actual fact there is non so results in a blurer image. unless you have IS for tripod mode, if not best is to off the IS while mounted on a tripod...

ohh yeap it makes sense to me now. am i right to say, maths-wise, positive(tripod) plus negative(IS) gives you negative(blur image)?;)
