Pictures result in yellowish (or warm) skin tone taken by GX1

yes, you're right. Warmer WB can bring out the mood. But those pictures were taken with sunlight from window. It is supposed to be cooler and honestly my hairly knee is very fair. :embrass:
Yesterday I took pictures of my kids at McD under incandescent lightings, the faces appeared to be soooooooooooo warm... lucky my wife was not in the picture, if not she will throw away my GX1 for making her a "Yellow face lady"... ha ha...

On the skin tone of the legs:

It is likely to do with the White Balance. Clearly, the one taken with D7000 is cooler than that of the GX1. A warmer white balance can bring out the mood of the photo. You should set the same white balance value manually to see if the 2 pictures matches and my guess they will be close.

Another way you can check is to use a piece of white paper and manually take the white balance instead of adjusting the value itself. You will then get to see if the GX1 is indeed trying to get warmer picture out compared to the D7000.

ha ha... I thought that's sexy... OT... sorry

Thanks for the tips.... =D

So either GX1 autoWB is warmer( not as accurate) or not as "pleasing" as D7k. If you are using LR, you can create a quick preset, my guess is +10 tint towards magenta, -10 to saturation then save it. Should be close to what you are looking for

yes... I only use flash with Intelligent Auto mode for GX1 and I hate the result... so don't bother to use flash anymore, I just pump up the ISO...

I thot the GX1 looks more natural for the (hairy) knee shot...

My problem is the flash... I have been taking indoor dinner shots in restaurants and a party in the evening outdoors with some available light... where you can either snap without the flash or with the flash. Without the flash, the color looks natural although there are some shots which could be livelier with the flash. But for those shots with the flash, they are almost all over-exposed and look like the D7000 (hairy) knee shot - not natural anymore... I used Intelligent Auto for those shots (14-42 x lens)..

Why ah...

Well, at least there is digital now which makes things convenient. Imagine going with film and indoor lighting, need to choose the filter for the light used if not the face will come out green or yellow.

Maybe can take JPEG and RAW, if not right then adjust the RAW. Normally I will adjust the colours to bring out the mood.

Flash makes the picture cool. If overexposed, did you use spot metering or metric? Normally if you use flash can just reduce the flash power by 1/3 or 2/3 stop so that it will compensate by increasing aperture, reducing shutter speed or increasing the ISO. The flash power is more for fill flash and by getting the spark out from the eyes, need not so powerful.

Try telling GX1? Oh well, it is the way Panasonic programmed the WB detection/setting to make pictures more warm. Looks like they did a less good job on this than Nikon D7000.

Seems like panasonic prefers to set a warmer white balance. But they gave us choices. If you are not happen with how the white balance is like, just click on AWB, click on settings and click right a few times to get cooler white balance.

All these are matters of preferences by the manufacturers and definitely not a deal breaker unless we cannot adjust the white balance.

hi GX1 users... I notice the OOC jpegs are underexposed... is it just me??

I think so too... but it is not a big issue for me, normally I set +1/3EV under "normal" situations...

Yes, I tend to get -2/3 underexposed. The problem seems to be improved by setting "HIGH" in I.Dynamic

Maybe I should try that later too... thanks!

Yep..Panny seems to be very conservative in the exposure settings.. in order not to clip highlights.. i typically shoot with +2/3EV

The iDynamic hint is interesting.. i typically leave mine at Standard.. will try the other settings to see if it helps !
