All the food making me hungry.
A nice Ramen to share using the ais20mm
Will be doing more skin tone testing with 5n but OOC jpeg skin tone has yellowish tint to it. A nicer skin tone should be pinkish so needs to play with PP more

Are you using lightroom? If you are, its pretty simple to create a preset (i can let you know my settings which is pretty consistent), with one click, you have a pinkish tint skin tone which is very close to Oly cam.I think all Sony cam has this problem even my A77 it's hard for me to get a good skin tone specially OOC JPEG =(
Very rosy and pink, which means excellent health.
The CV 58f1.4 SL II produces a very natural skin tone which I don't need to PP, but not as pinkish as your baby.
CV 58f1.4 SL II at f2 with only slight tone curve adjustment.
Is this RAW converted or JPEG OOC? Yes, this skintone looks nice. I found RAW too sharp for portrait, have to soften it alot more than shooting in JPEG and more noise due to the sharpness, and Adobe standard tend to look under exposed. I've got 5N profiles but non of them look good for portrait, not sure why, the profiles made the skin look more yellow! But Faithful profile looks very nice tho
My baby looks pinkish (well little yellow now with Jaundice) but when she cries, she turns RED!
Need to learn how to use video with the 5N as I have never shot a single video in my life. Care to give me some elementary tips?
Use a tripod if you can, when you pan, think in terms of slow motion it is allright for the subject move from one side of the framing to the other i.e: you do not have to keep the subject centred all the time, use the widest aperture for that beautiful DOF (which is why you're shooting video with an APS-C sensor camera instead of a camcorder right ?) and lastly, shoot a few seconds before and after the "Action" to give yourself some space for Post-editing.
Good luck and most importantly, HAVE FUN !
Thanks. What about settings? I don't understand any video standard so which is best to use and a simple why?
Love the Voigtlander 58f1.4 SL II rendition on NEX 5N.
Hi Anthony, I like the series of flowers shots that you have posted. Very nice
Keeping things simple ...use the 50fps setting for general video work (fast/smooth actions shots) and the 25fps setting if you want a cinema/film look (we are using the PAL standards in SG that's why we don't have the 60fps or 30fps NTSC options)
There is no "best" standard or settings to use as it all depends on the scene and what you're trying to achieve, most would think that Auto Focusing is the best thing for Video(it's not), it may be so for fast action where the subject is coming towards the camera but almost 90% of the time, it's better to shoot with manual focusing and focus peaking, this is where the Nex kicks the camcorder's butt.:bsmilie:
Very nice flower shots ! ...If you liked the 58mm focal length, I've got to let you try one of my Helios !!!
Once again, many thanks for taking time to answer my questions. It's now crystal clear.
Yes, I love 58 because it's closest to the 85 mm I love on FF for portraits, that's why I have many 50s. Never tried the Helios before because they are mostly M42 mount and not very good for my former Canon FF as they cause mirrow issues at infinity, just like the Pentax S-M-C takumars and Mamiya Sekors.
Yes, we should meet soon for a gathering to exchange and share our experiences. This will also be a good opportunity for those who want to try manual focus lenses.
Cheers
You're most welcome ! ...however I must state that I'm no expert on videography :bsmilie:
YES ! YES ! ...we should organise a NEX party for all to share, test and experience MF lense on the NEX platform !
Would like to share this email from a very nice gentleman from Ebay, whom I purchased a very nice Sears 28mmf2.8 lens.
"Thanks for the nice feedback. Hope it works well for you. It is an interesting lens, I would have kept it except for trying to limit my hardware to Olympus OM and M42 mounts. I always worry when sending equipment half way around the world. Glad it arrived in good condition. Many of my recent sales have been outside the US, to Thailand, Taiwan, Korea. It seems people in the US are busy chasing the latest thing with little appreciation for good qualities of the older stuff.
All the better for me - I sometimes find nice lenses for pennies. Just got a Sears 55mm f/1.4 in excellent condition for $10. The seller was so unknowledgeable that he advertised it as an "Edna Lite 709'. A Series VII adapter for 55mm filter rings so no one else bid. It's on my NEX right now."
