Pictures from Nex-5N

Looking at these pictures really tempt me to go out and buy more primes.

These primes lens require an adapter, right?

Yes, and in your case, get a NikonF/G to NEX adapter and you can use your AFD 50f1.4 straight away. Most of my lenses are Nikkor ais lenses, including the Voigtlander 58f1.4 SL II.

Thanks and I appreciates your valuable advices. Think I will get the adapter soon.

The more I use the kit 18-55, the more I like it. This is one of those good days when I do simple test runs thru my balcony.

18-55 F9, 35mm, ISO 100.

Tested the usability of my Nikkor 105f2.5 ais wide open outdoor. Quite impressed with sharpness and contrast.

Nikkor 105f2.5 at f2.5, ISO 200 on NEX 5N with EVF

Need some tips here, i noticed the Nex5N has some difficulties focusing on a small object. E.g. I'm trying to capture a nearby object sharply to create a bokeh effect in the background.
It the object is a small piece of leaf, the camera will not focus on it. It'll try to focus on other nearby objects.

I did some readup and it seems like the NEX5N uses Contrast focusing, thus leading to this problem.

I've seen many superb shots here, so need some help on best way to correctly focus on where I want it to be.

Any tips ?

Use AF-S, center focus point mode to focus on the small leaf by half pressed, after focused, recompose while holding on the shutter button (this will lock exposure also). Full press when you want to take the shot.
However, it also depends on how small your leaf is and if there is enough contrast between the subject and background. If all is green and look like leaves, it will tend to be confused.

if everything else fail, there is always manual focus

Actually, one should use AF "flexible spot" focusing as this spot is movable by using the four way controller or the touch screen method.

always use a tripod! since nex is small and light, you dont need big tripod but it always help to have slightly heavier and sturdy tripod. I'm using a tripod that can take 8kg because i have dslr too. since your tripod is not tall enough, maybe you look for a taller one? Mass sale section has many that you can choose from
