Hi Guys,
Need some advice.... at f2, my pics have a "halo" around the lights... at f8, my pics have "starburst" effect... how to eliminate this?
try f4.5 or f5.6 or else can try to photoshop away.
but i get a feeling you don't understand how the aperture value work ?
i prefer to have star burst effect at night.
So... how does aperture work? Why got starburst? If I use DSLR, will I be able to get away from this?
Just curious, if the 2 night shots would have been taken using iA, wouldn't the ideal Fx be selected automatically? I assume it would then be the ideal setting. Would be nice if mrericlee show us the same shot taken in iA mode. Being a beginner, using iA is the easiest mode and it always turn out ok for me as I'm not overly critical about noise, etc. To me, the shot must be WYSIWYG. Still think that in today's 21st century technology, the hardware should take care of everything automatically (as one would have shot in Manual mode) and softwares will take care of all the creative effects you can imagine. As they say, if the original is not that good, there is only so much you can do to improve the image using softwares.
i suggest you use P-mode instead.
once you adjust the WB, iso limit and shutter limit to 1/4 sec, basically the cam will select random settings for you, be it aperture or shutter value.

Thanks for advise, I've set the ISO limit to 800 and WB to Auto. How do I set shutter limit (I assume you mean shutter speed)? If I do it, will it give me proper exposure like I've seen in the Pany ad (the one shown in the gym). Perfect picure everytime without any blur images.
when you go up to F8, less light enters through the lens, as you can see your 1st shot is brighter in the background.
likewise F2 allows more light in, so any lights that are brighter than background or foreground subjects have some sort of light aura around it.
you can try it out at home in a dark room with just the table lamp on, the diff between F2 and F8 can see clearly on the 2 diff pictures you take.
play around with the aperture values especially in the middle range until you achieved the result you wanted.
even on dslr if you use F11 onwards at night, you will also get some star burst effects...
