Pictures from LX3 for technical discussion - part II

I took all the photos at ISO400 and above to test the noise level of the camera and it turn up quite well with good details in the pictures. Guess you really have to turn down the sharpening and NR in-camera for better performance. All pictures are unedited. Hope I can improve my skills and dun let this camera down.

bro..care to share yr setting on the film? NR and Sharpness reduce how much?

Hi bro, I used standard film for the pics except for the B&W ones. NR and sharpness set to -2.

I usually extend the zoom to full when shooting closeups but somehow feel it could be sharper

May I know where is your "point-of-focus" on your subject/rice? Cos to me I'd see that the center portion of your 'rice' is sharp enough:thumbsup:

Ya like what blueskye168 said, the centre portion of the rice is sharp. I guess you are referring to the tips which are not as sharp. Maybe u want to set your point of focus on the tips and use a smaller aperture so that more of the subject is in focus?

Also, do note:bigeyesn the Directions of wind blow and the "force/strength" of it coming/going, cos those are some of the contributing factors of causing/ranging from slight to extreme blur-shots as a result. While your :bigeyes:shutterspeed, ISO may or may not, be a contributing factors too

Btw, sometimes (to me) it's good to show just some "motion" in your pics, a "trail-bits-of-it" cos too much may rendered as a blurred-shots rather then "motion-of-moments"(dance performances and flowers, etc, rather than so static as it'll give the viewer a sense of "natural-swaying/swinging" of your subject especially in the open so as to convey a "motion-of-moments" eg. spinning, speed, moving, waving, flying etc, etc

Ya was wondering about the blur tips, but I guess inevitable from the slight wind movements, unless I up the ISO and reduce aperture. But I was thinking that would increase the DOF and make the background too messy.

Also do you think the colours look a bit flat? Is it slightly underexposed that would cause that?
My MY1 settings are always at NR-2 and Sat-1. Don't want to up the saturation cos it makes everything look so 'artificial' if you know what I mean.

Hmm should experiment more.

Hey guys, can check with you if you use intelligent exposure? I see there's 3 options, low, standard and high for intelligent exposure.

I read that it is supposed to increases the exposure only in under-exposed areas by detecting the brightness level part-by-part in the picture. If the background includes the sky, which tends to be easily washed out, the camera automatically adjusts the aperture and shutter speed to keep the setting slightly under-exposed to prevent wash-out while brightening the darkened area by increasing the ISO only in that area.

Anybody who uses it, care to share your experience on how useful it is and whether you recommend everybody to use it?

Dunno if I'm using the intelligent exposure correctly but i set it to high for non HD scene photos.

Bro, I set/switch between 'High' and 'Standard' depends on circumstances eg. very bright outdoor/indoor enviroments likewise as with 'not-so-well-lighted' indoor/outdoor enviroments too

Well, it's never a bad thing to play/experiment with these feature, as I believed there's a high possibility that you might get to learn/pick-up something new/interesting on the way, agree...??

Have you checked whether your firmware is the latest?
I understand that the earlier firmwares (pre - 1.20) have this problem.

Resetting your camera before you update to firmware 2.0 should take care of the so-called bugs of 2.0.
