Photozone: Most current NEX lenses are not good enough for the NEX-7!

At F8, most lenses are sharp, but what you want is resolution, not just sharpness. 35F1.7 is superior still at F8.

As reviewed by most n from d photo I have test shot on, I agree. Thanks. My helicoid adapter not here yet. Sigh.

Try the 50lux and 35lux (latest ASPH version only please). You will change your perspective.

Faintz. D 35-1.7 is M39 mount. My adapter is M to E mount. Now using d M39 to M adapter n seemed got focus to infinity problem. When focus to infinity, subject is blur. Slightly before infinity, sharper abit but not very sharp like it's supposed to b. All these when wide opened. Weird.

har.. meaning M39 -> M -> E mount ? maybe thats why got problem . get a direct M39 -> E mount bah

OIC. You didn't check before buying?

I think your multiple adapters is creating too far focus point.

Too late as sold my whole set (Nex 7 + Voigtlander Adapter) to a close friend. Figured out that image quality is more critical for me and both my X-Pro1 and M9P delivers much sharper pictures with better bokeh, with just each own branded lens without adapter. Even with the CV35mmF1.2II which made my Nex 7 bigger and heavier than my X-Pro1, my Nex 7 is still not as good as X-Pro1 with its 35mm F1.4 kit lens (not so concerned about AF speed). Surprised that the X-Pro1 though only 16mp, still have much cleaner and sharper pictures than my 24mp Nex 7. Have been comparing my own pictures from my 3 cameras and have finally made up my mind just to keep the best 2 in terms of IQ purely.

Was very interested in the Nex 7 due to it's size, but with all the adapters, Leica, Zeiss and Voigtlander lenses, it is no longer small and portable - the only selling point for me.

Keeping only X-Pro1 and M9P now, with X-Pro1 being my casual gear while M9P for more serious shots.

Enjoy your Nex 7 and your continuous journey on expensive glasses!

Not complaining about the capability of the Nex 7. Don't get me wrong.

It is just that I have other cameras and prefer them more than my Nex 7. Have been using the other cameras that I have and Nex 7 has been under-utilised.

Enjoy your Nex 7 and take more great pictures!

hehe no worries. not saying anything. understand that when u have many cameras.. some will be under-utilised. thats why i sold off all my canon gear.

am still learning how to get better with manual focusing.

Tried his other M39 to E Mount adapter, same... must focus slightly less than infinity then sharper. I guess @ f1.2, sharpenss @ infinity is compromised. I stopped down to f4.0 and @ infinity, it's much sharper. No issue for me as @ f1.2 to take near subject shots, it's sharp as my Zeiss 50-1.7. Normal street shooting I will just use f4.0. I managed to get d 39mm chrome B+W UV filter to match the silver Ultron 35-1.7.. It's still a good lens nonetheless. Cheers. Just gotta wait for my Helicoid adapter to test it with the additonal voigtlander M39 to M mount adapter with it. Tks all for yr kind feedback..

From your description, it seems that you may have bought a lens with "back-focus" issue. Quite common for rangefinder lenses which require calibration occasionally. If you read the range-finder forum, there are quite a few buddies with their 50lux turned to "infinity" in their lens but not sharp when shooting far object - they have to turn it back slightly to have sharp image. This should not affect you much if you are using focus peaking in your Nex 7, but if you are learning to use hyperfocusing technique, then you may need to calibrate it.

hm. i notice my Contax G lens also focus beyond infinity with metabones adapter. i have 2 adapter and both lens shows the same. one member ,elixir , mention that all lenses with different adapters focus beyond infinity, even the metabones. http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/sony...nce-contax-g-adapters-nex-5n.html#post7714944

Hawk's adapter + CV 35 f1.2 doesnt have that problem.

Not sure about other adapters, but never had this problem when using Novoflex and Voightlander M-to-Nex adapters. Turn to infinity on the Voigtlander, Zeiss and Leica lenses with the Voigt/Novoflex adapter and all far objects are sharp. This is provided that all my M lenses are perfectly calibrated and they are all sharp on my M9P.

I have owned a 50lux previously with "back-focus" issue (not sharp when turn to "infinity" range on the lens) even with a M9P. Had to send back to Germany for calibration. This was a brand new lens then.

I m using the seller's Novoflex M to E mount adapter at the moment, also got back focus issue, have to turn bk 1mm from Infinity Focus to get sharpness on faraway objects. Guess I can live with it unless I send the Voigtlander for calibration... Anyone here locally can do it?

You can try checking with Mr Tay from decameraconsultant. Not sure if he will do calibration for lenses, but he is quite skilled with CLA and repair for rangefinders.

It could also be a perfectly calibrated lens for it's dedicated camera body, but due to the difference in adapter and camera, thus creating a "back-focus" problem. So I am not sure if you still want to send for calibration.

Generally, Novoflex and Voigtlander adapters are very accurate and perfect for M-to-E conversion, maintaining the focus range of the lenses. However, when you use another adapter in between, I am not certain if it will affect your focusing since the adapters were designed to be used alone with specific length/width/focus.

Sorry, how to find him? Can share web links or contacts? Many thanks.

His shop is located at Guillemard Road, near Geylang. But give him a call as sometimes he is not at his shop everyday.

You will see a lot of nice Artisan&Artists straps, half cases as he is also an authorised dealer for A&A products. He also carries his own soft release button for rangefinder camera and other digital camera (not for Sony Nex), such as Fuji X100.

A good uncle with good skills!
