Photozone: Most current NEX lenses are not good enough for the NEX-7!

place order already the Hawk's adapter? Most likely will get 35mm f1.2 next week.

posted selling all my canon stuff :bsmilie: been awhile i touched the Canon 7D + lens..when i try to hold it couple days ago.. omfg...it feel so freaking heavy. :bsmilie:

BTW, saw some reviews on this version 2.5 Hawk's Factory LM-NEX Macro adapter...

Voigtlander VM35mm F1.2 lens focus distance of 0.5m, can be shortened to: 0.26m

Hawk's Factory Close Focus Adapter Review - Rangefinderforum.com

One this is comments seems quite negative though:

"The new V2.5 looks terrible, to me. One of my biggest annoyances with adapters is when the focus tab is large and pinches the fingers on my grip hand. Before the Hawk's, I bought Voigtlander adapters for this reason. I hope my V2 adapter lasts a while, because I won't buy a V2.5."

yeah saw that post b4.

Anyway, if you could when u got the lens and adapter, do take a pic to see if d focus tab on the adapter is too large n annoying for usage? Thanks. Yours is version 2.5 rite?

K. Pending yr updates. Hope it's not as annoying as it's been reviewed. Cheers.

Abt d color shift, how bad it is on the NEX 7? U using the 15mm Voigtlander?

It's very noticeable even if you're shooting against a dark background.

Shoot RAW and use Cornerfix. IQ of the Voigtlander 15mm on a NEX-7 is well worth the extra step.

As I have the 19mm Sigma, just wondering if I really need the 15mm focal length lens? I mean the sigma is really great...

Don't touch the Voigtlander 15mm or 12mm, and tell yourself that Sigma 19mm is the best lens ever made for Nex 7.

That may help you save some money.

Haha..... Did anyone mentioned that Voigtlander 15mm is one of the best lens that Voigtlander ever produced?

there's 2 types of 15mm ?
Voigtlander 15mm/f4.5 Super Wide-Heliar M Mount
Voigtlander 15mm/f4.5 Super Wide-Heliar [LTM]

very quick Voigtlander 15mm vs 16mmf2.8 / Nex5N vs Nex7 corners [Page 1]: Sony NEX Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
"They're the same lens design but because of the slight extra distance imposed by the adapter (that's my theory at least), the LTM version seems to cause less color shift than the M version. I've seen samples from the M version with color shift even on the 5n, where samples from the LTM version had none."

Have been using the cv15 ltm with my 5n and did not notice any color shift. Not sure about the m mount variant tho.

However have read reports that with nex7 both ltm and m mount will have some degree of color shift.

But that doesn't necessarily apply to the NEX-7, even if it's a valid point otherwise. I have the LTM version of the 15mm. Its use on my NEX-7 yields images with more color shift than on my NEX-C3.

ah ok.

eh. i read about focus shift thingy.. is there anything i need to take note when buying manual lens like voigtlander

Nex 7 has magenta casting for most M mount lenses with asymmetrical design for lenses wider than 35mm. I have used a 35mm Zeiss Biogon f2, and the magenta casting is also very obvious. Wasted as it is a very light and sharp lens for the Nex 7, but have to use corner fix for each shots.

Tried with 50lux and it seems fine. Even the 35mm f1.2 Voigtlander Nokton has minimal impact, though very minimal and not visible for most shots.

Focus shift is only of concern for rangefinder such as Leica M.

If you are using manual focus on the Nex 7 with peak focusing, you shoot at exactly what you manually focused. No issue.

thanks for the info !~

Don't compare as it will never end. Just be happy with your Sigma 19mm. It is a good lens, and it has autofocus for your Nex.

Voigtlander is a fully manual lens. One of the BEST wide angle lens for M mount.

Did anyone mention that voigtlander is one of the BEST wide angle lens available?

Think my Sigma 19mm can be comparable in sharpness with the 15mm Voigtlander... Maybe color characteristics wise... lose out ba... Haha

Sometimes it's quite subjective ya? Ppl might argue otherwise. But I believed from d reviews I had read. This WA Heliar is highly regarded even though it does haf issues on d NEX 7. How abt d 12mm Heliar? Any better?

*An* issue, the color shift. It's sharper in the corners than any of Sony's own e-mount stuff, and produces far less distortion. And to top it off, it's comparatively inexpensive.

And I'd sure as hell rather deal with color shift than with the complex distortion that comes with some other WA lenses.

Reviews often offer a good frame of reference, but it's best to take them with a grain of salt. Even DXOmark's "by numbers and charts" approach often doesn't give an accurate picture of the capabilities of a lens.

It's easy enough to take even the best lenses and expose their weaknesses, and then go bitch and moan about it on the internet. The real challenge is to learn what your lenses' strengths are and then to exploit those strengths in order to produce great photographs.
