A friend of mine, Terence ( terence@uanworld.com , 97608292), is doing up a coffee table book to express what his organisation - United Artiste Network (UAN for short) is all about - to unite artists of every genre for collaboration and support and to help people achieve their dreams. UAN will be launched very soon and this coffee table booklet is meant for its founding members (who are established personas in society) and corporate partners. The book is going to be a black / white photo book with minimal text.

The look of the book is going to be "dream-like" as he'll be adopting the theme of "DREAMS becoming reality".

He’s looking at including original shots of anything that can suggest dreams coming true, or aspirations, or people doing things others only dream of, or people doing things that they are passionate about... e.g. A little girl dancing in her mother's gown with oversized court shoes / a duckling flapping its wings with mother duck watching in the background / a man teaching playing a piano on a mountain top....

He’s also hoping to use this opportunity to create exposure for as many people to display their art as possible. Instead of payment*, he will be giving the photographer the credit in the book (eg "Photography by _____ ") and will send a copy of the book to you once its done. :)

Do you have any photographs that you think fit into this theme? He’s deliberately leaving the theme vague so that you can let your imagination run wild.

Basically, what he needs is a sample of the shot in jpeg format to be sent to terence@uanworld.com and leaving him a contact number so he can get in touch with the photographer. He can also be contacted directly at 97608292 for enquiries.

*Please note: He may require the donors of these photographs to sign a release form, which is basically a written permission to allow him to use the photographer’s work (which would however still belong to the photographer, of course)

Your friend's proposition is quite ridiculous. If UAN is a company, can't they just pay the photographers for the photos? If they are selling the books, they will get all the profits and the photographers get none. What are the use of giving credits? It is just another method for getting people to work for them for free. blah! :sticktong

Hi,

Why don't you ask your friend Terence to come here to discuss? There is no use in getting a discussion here without getting his opinion/views........

To others: you can see this coffee table book as an advertisement for your oen pics. So I don't see exploitation on the SINGLE use of the images for THIS coffee tabll book ONLY. But if Terence wants to use the image for other purposes as well, he should have a one-to-one discussion with every photographer involved. I believe rights for a one-time usage is ok, but probbaly not thereafter, but it all depends on the photographers views too. if they feel it is ok, it is up to them........
