PhotoMarathon 2010 in singaopre...

I don't know, but they had some professional (I suppose) photographers going around to shoot...

Oh and to add on, I wonder how the photo that has all the participants would look like man... lolololol.

can't tell......i can't even find the winning entries on the web.....donno where they hide them......need so long to upload meh?

ARRR, 1 of my photo was crush, unable to view... after uploading to them..... =X my fren encounter the same problem too.!!

my mind was blank for the third theme.....

agreed!

totally no idea what to shoot for theme3. end up shooting batteries from my flash... lol

I saw many photog. shooting redbull....and the poor redbull lady at the counter had to accommodate the request for more cans to shoot. Ended up, photog, gaily walked away...:nono:

did u notice how many photos were there of people shooting through lens (specs, lens, glasses)? it was so cliched!

and yeah, the faith part.......so many about the religious iconography...

creativity wise...i think this year de...pretty not there yet.

Yah, can someone explain to me what's with the spectacle lens? I was so tempted to ask this couple, what is it about that they are using their spectacle lens...

Me also first time joined today. Found it an interesting experience.
Some winning entries didn't appeal to me but I thought a few was done rather well. I think a significant factor for winning is to be able to stand out from the crowd in terms of interpretation of theme cos the judges have to sift through a thousand over entries every 3 hours. Their eyes probably became numb to the many shots that used the same treatment even if they were really nice shots (e.g. composing with magnifying glass/ spectacles for theme 1, shooting all the usual praying poses for theme 2, or making all the zoom-zoom/motion effects for theme 3). Perhaps we find the winning entries rather ordinary because we only have to compare them with our own shots but not with the dozens of other shots that have a similar style as ours?

I guess it is just the nature of the photo contest.
What to do? Have to learn to be more original if want to join next time lor.
Maybe Canon should call it the "Be Original Photo Marathon" instead?

mike-> isnt that supposed to be the point?! :D

I think still worth the $10 (2cans of red bull + 2 bottles mineral + Tshirt + 1 free print out...)
I bought PhotoYou magazine $9.90 got 2 copies.

mike-> isnt that supposed to be the point?! :D

Yes, it is exactly the point. That's why I suggested to put the description in the title because it seems many photographers were still gathering and taking shots of the same thing. So it must be that many participants still don't realize that originality is what they are after.
;)

I saw alot of photographers like almost ogling at the model man...... they were as though standing there for the model to come out and then start shooting away... i saw my friend's photos and almost all of the photos are the same...

Here are the my 6yo son's entries for yesterday's CPM. It's our third family outing and frankly, if you go there for the prizes alone, it's a wasted effort and the wrong place to go, it's not like as if the judging takes weeks to conclude, the results are given on the same day.

The event is clearly for marketing purposes for Canon and its co-sponsors, and the chance for everyone to win something based on their unique efforts should be enough. C'mon, it's not like you were short changed in terms of fees paid out. The camera cleaning, shirt, printing, and drinks alone cost more than 10 bucks, it's obvious that the fee charged wasn't for profit purposes.

However, I don't understand one of the winning photos either, the almost-pure black one... I guess it may have to do with the fact that the image was rear-projected in a lit hall and it's different when viewed on a monitor. I hope someone can post the actual image here for viewing.

The entries in the previous years seem a bit more creative than this year's though, not better or worse, but just less creative/experimental this year.

I like the new uploading system the kiosks employed this year, much more efficient than the manual-entry systems of the past. No viruses too hehe. Still wished they brought back the ice-cream sponsor.

I am a canon user but Canon Company is the overall winner because no matter how good the photos were taken...they collected $10 from each participant and had a mass "live" advertisment to the public haha... So to me maybe this isn't that much of a photography competition but more of a Canon advert. That's why you guys are required to wear the CANON polo tee throughout the competition right? haha

Just some random thoughts...

;) you saw the big picture

It was my first photo competition yesterday and I had great fun yesterday doing the shots. Although I was alone doing it. Anyways...you can see my shots other than the submitted ones here:

The projection for the slideshow yesterday was terrible, simply did no justice for the better shots taken. Especially the winning shots. Canon posted the winning shots for all categories on Facebook this morning, should really check the pictures out.

most of the photos are like zoom-burst for me ;p

...i am...speechless.......
some winner were excellent! but for the others.......looks more like snaps than good work.......sigh.....

like some of the guys here said...this is more for canon publicity than to seriously find good photographs.

Anyone knows where we can find out about the rankings of the participants?

By the way, are those photos flashed on the big screen are shortlisted ones?
