PhotoMarathon 2010 in singaopre...

I remember asking one of the Canon reps and she said that they didn't allow edited shots, only what can be done in the camera. Which meant studio shots were ok, but photoshop was banned.

Yes, that's right.

wah....then iphone/android users might have the best of the worlds since whatever effect they want or editing they want to do is like 99 cents away? The day it also does macro and have f/2 sensor, i can leave a lot of gear at home.
Most of the effects are over the top anyway... besides, it's more about the content than the equipment anyway, they want to take part let them. :P

One interesting thing to try for people at the Canon photomarathon 2010 next saturday.

We can suggest to the Canon organisers to have a Mass flash event

How to achieve this effect

Every canon flash set to slave flash setting Channel 1 group A.
I guess one master flash controlling so many flashes has never been tried before even by Nikon Nuke blaster Joe McNally.

The master flash from the official photographer will take command of all canon flashes to fire at the same time. This can make the CANON name standout in the crowd if they have their flashes gelled to a certain colour like red, up to them to decide.

Next everyone take off their flash from their camera hotshoe and raise it pointing to the ceiling ( maybe point towards floor also). Locate the test or pilot button and press it to fire their flashes on command from the official photographer.

The whole hall will have the flashes fire at the same time when the official photographer takes a one second F22 shot Iso 100 and a one second F22 with 4 or 10 stop ND filter shot at iso 100. These shots must be shot within 10 seconds of each other as most flashes will go to sleep within 15 to 30 secs, this is to get maximum flashes awake at the same time to fire and recharge.

The guide number of average of all the flashes is maybe GN30 times 5000 people who fire at the same time = GN150,000 in the same room. Never done before in Singapore I think.

We will see if everyone can cooperate to pull this off, could be a world record.

You know the moment I saw the words "mass flash" and "everyone" I instantly thought of this:

It could be interesting if it can be done in singapore and create a record for flashes fired at the same time.

Saw this on FB:

To all registered participants of the Canon PhotoMarathon Singapore 2010 happening this Saturday, there are slight changes to the timings:

0700hrs - On-site registration and collection of competition apparel commence
0830hrs - Competition Brief, followed by annoucement of Theme 1

yup... guess perhaps there's lots of people taking part that's why they push it earlier by 1/2 hr lol...

Since registration starts at 7am and the competition brief at 8.30, any problem if I arrive around 7.30?

i think should be fine... but do go early cos the tee shirt size is first come first serve.

Hhaha, I will be at MS for dinner, perhaps, I should stay overnight???? lol

that's not a bad idea too :P

hi, regarding the rules, the picture should not above 5MB right?

im using 550D, and if i use the best quality image (18MP), it will produce around 5.2MB (above 5MB)
if i use normal quality image (8MP), it will produce around only 2MB (below 5MB)

so, i have to use the 8MP one right? in order to get <5MB of picture
is the quality will significant be different?

Can anyone who joined the past competitions shed some light on what is the estimate duration they give for each theme? 1 hour? 2 hour?

1 Hour isn't even enough to travel to anywhere farther than CBD area and back....2 hours still a bit tough to go further....
