Hi All,

I will be taking photos during my dive in March for the first time. Any tips or advise for noobs? I will be using a PNS camera with underwater housing.

enjoy the views first before taking photos ??

Go as close as possible if you are using flash...

Don't use flash if the subject is more than a metre or two away...

Make sure you can dive well before using camera...

Yup. Safety first. Anyhow take photos.

Do your equipment and buddy check, and maintaining situational awareness comes first.

Don't kick the corals.

Thank you all for your advise! Will definitely keep safety first..

Another tip..... DON'T USE TOO MUCH SILICON GREASE ON THE O RING... alot of flooding is caused by users applying too much grease...

I would be most worried about not flooding your housing. Do a leak test. On your first dive bring your housing underwater without the camera inside and try out all of the buttons to make sure there are not any leaks. Never be in a rush when setting up or cleaning your gear. Enjoy!

Pressure changes greatest in the 1st 10m, esp the first 5m. so check for air bubbles escaping or water flooding by staring at the casing. Best if lens port facing down, so if small leak, water collects there first.

oh, try and see if u can squeeze a small pack of silica at the bottom of casing, to absorb moisture, helps prevent internal fogging.
Try not to open and close up your casing in air con room or take ur casing from air con room to outside and immediately case the cam.
traps the cool air in the casing, causes speed up in fogging

Cool.. thanks all.. Hopefully can try it out when the season opens..

Hey where would you be diving with your camera? Whats your rig? :)

Photography tips for first leisure dive - NOT bring a camera ;)

Surroundings awareness
Remember your o/w cert - NO TOUCHING. Too many photog'ers ignore this important rule so think about it.

Safety - i'd put this as your priority TBH!

You should not be taking photos on your 1st ( or 2nd or 3rd....) dive period.

You only do so when you are a competent diver. You probably do not have good buoyancy control as yet. Do yourself a favour and be a better diver first...for both the underwater life and yourself.

No Guts No Glory

- Test Yr Casing Without Your Camera On The First Time.
- Set Camera To Auto. Just Snap Snap And Feel Comfortable
- Remember To Bring A Carabiner To Clip Yr Camera. Useful If U Want To Put Your Camera Aside.

I'm new to the field of photography so I don't really just rely on my own instincts. I've been using a couple of online tutorials and websites for getting guidelines on this. I've been asking people to help me out since I'm a single parent and can't afford to join a photography school. Recently my uncle recommended me this website http://beagreatphotographer.net/ which he used in his initial years and it was helpful too. I think you better take video tutorials on YouTube and that might be helpful too. I am doing this all stuff because I want a good capture of my 1st Leisure dive and make it memorable.
