Photography Books to Recommend?

Went to Kinokuniya and was overwhelmed by the number of photography books. Any good books to recommend for a nature photographer?

quite highly recommended by all the ppl here..

Take a walk to Funan ctr, first floor..there's a shop named Riceball. You'll be spoiled for choice! I'm reading "Understanding Exposure" & "Learning to see creatively"- Bryan peterson ... got it there...

why buy?

borrow from the national library - central has quite a collection. grab a few books, sit down and read through, see if you find it interesting.

if not, dump the book, it isn't for you. if you can read it and you actually find it fun to read, borrow it and go home.

price? FOC.

yep, i'm also reading this right now. highly recommended. it illustrates the differences between the right exposures and the "creatives" ones.

I have read 'Understanding Exposure' but find the info a bit too old, although the theory is still applicable today to digital camera. "The Digital Photography' by Scott Kelly is much more updated and full of tips. In fact, every page is a tip. Each tip is like instructions from a shooting buddy without the theory. It has a full chapter on landscape and another on shooting flowers. Will complements any basic photography book. It even advise you what equipments to buy to help you get better pictures. Just bought 'The Moment It Clicks' by Joe McNally. It has stories behind the pictures, tips (not full fledged instructions!) on achieving the shot. Haven't read too much yet but promises to be a very inspiring read.

I second that. In fact most of the titles mentioned, I've already read. I save, save, save on books so I can buy, buy, buy other things. Most of all, go outside and fondle your camera.

You can also take a look at these books recommended by Thom Hogan. I own a few of them and borrowed the others from the library. You may not see the books at the libraries but do a search in their online catalog and you will be amazed at their collection. Reserve them and enjoy Some books are actually very updated :thumbsup:

Unfortunately, there are shameless and inconsiderate people who tear/cut out pictures from these photo books :angry:

just go down to Funan and proceed to Riceball...u can ask him for recommendations based on your level as a photographer. I went down recently and was bought 3 books for 20% off..I'm a member of course. Or u can also borrow from the library...FOC..

"Understanding Exposure" is an excellent book from the film era...which I term as real photo techniques. Much of those digital photography books tech nothing much more than snapshooting....terrible. Other than Bryan Peterson, look for excellent books from photographers like John Shaw, Lee Frost. The late Galen Rowell's books are also another great source, though it's more awe inspiring than techniques.
