Use a fisheye lens. You can get real close and still make them believe you're shooting something else.

Legally it's not wrong, but with all the news of child molesters/pedophiles - most parents would freak out at a stranger shooting their kid.

depends on the subject.
public places can also stare publicly..

problem is if you stare at the wrong subject you might end up beaten or worst, dead.. same with taking photos of people..

Not wrong, then can shoot. I always shoot on the street.
Even quarreled with a busker before. Nothing unusual when you do this in S'pore.

That joker even called police, but in the end he got caught for illegally busking + my photos are evidence against him. :bsmilie:

i usually shoot street holding my camera like a pns....i walk and move my camera left or right and snap when a composition is achieve, sometime i act lost..so far have not encounter any issue...i also wear a "singapore is a fine city" t-shirt...which probably makes ppl think i am a tourist.

Well... I don't practice all these fanciful tips like posing as a tourists and all. I just hold up my camera and shoot, and so far so good. Plus if people not happy and wanted me to delete their photo, I will do what they ask... and if they are rude, I just walked off.

So far I didn't have any bad encounter, and I have been shooting regularly. People are actually pretty friendly and alright... of course you must practice some common sense, if someone doesn't look too happy or was not the type that you think is safe to shoot at... don't shoot at them.

tough one. I'm a parent and I must say it's best to practise caution when it comes to little kids, as some have already rightly pointed out. Certainly a friendly eye contact with the parent first, before you shoot his or her kid, will go a long way. I will feel somewhat concerned if I turn my eye away for a moment or two only to find some strange man busy snapping away at my girl. I know friends who would freak out in fact. It is hard to say as it does depend on the "vibe". But to be safe, it is always better to "engage" the parent first.

Also, can I just say that if you are taking street photos and the "object" happens to be a baby, that you mustn't use flash in their face. That is really really inconsiderate and can cause harm to little babies.

That's a scared parent's myth. The flash won't do any harm.
