Hi, I'm just wondering if it's possible to capture a meteor shower. According to reports, tonight, or rather tomorrow early morning (ie. 19 Nov 2006 2am-6am), the constellation leo will rise from the eastern horizon. Though it won't be spectaular, if any at all.

Do u think it's possible to capture any?

I'm planning to use a 10-22mm lens, prolly at ISO 800, and use it wide open on bulb mode.

Any comments, suggestions? Thx!

erm trying to catch the Leonids in singapore? i dont think can bah.
i think bulb mode shud be fine.. try 30s?
u try go lim chu kang or ubin to try to catch it.
the last time i saw a meteor was in desaru 2 years ago

do let us know if u managed to capture the meteor shower :)

find F4, put them there and sing the song..... :bsmilie:

jking.

For catch the meteor shower, you should not using ISO 400 instead using ISO 100 or 200, so the picture will look more fine and less grain.

For catch meteor shower, find a dark place, and aim the camera to the east near Orion(assume u take Leonids meteor shower) around 3.30~sunrise.

Use tripod to hold the camera.
Change the camera to M (manual) mode.
Use the appeture as large as possible so can collect more light.
Do not zoom.if possible, use wide angle lens.
Set the focal lenght to infinity or as long as possible.
Open the shutter for 30 sec to 3 minute if possible.(use shuttle release)

Try to take more picture, because to catch the meteor is totally by LUCK!!

Good luck.
(btw, Leonids Peak at 17 Nov 06, may be you can try Geminid around 14 Dec. go NASA and check it out:) )
*i assume u using Digital cam. Film one i never try before but the shuttle need longer.

sorry guys, unfortunately, i didn't managed to catch any. there was also some rain clouds cluster towards the east from 1.30 am to 3 am. however, i saw 1 shooting star at 3.30am. but i think it's prolly a stray and not part of the leonids as it started from the center of the sky shooting towards the east. yellow greenish tail and lasted long enuff for me to mumble "holy sh*t" :bsmilie:

anyway, i tried iso 800 wide open initially. expose 1 minute and the sky is almost blown already. singapore night sky sux!

maybe next time try ISO 200, for longer exposure. but if there really is any shooting star, i would think that it's to faint to be recorded :dunno:

thx for the info, elvin. will try out the geminids if i hv the chance.

yep singapore night sky sucks..! when i went to the uk, the night sky was awsome! could literally see all the constellations and fainter stars without much difficulty. it was like the star chart was just infront of my eyes

i beg to differ. some meteors are ridiculously dim, and you'll need all the ISO to capture it. so ISO 100 and 200 might only capture FIREBALLS woo!
