Photographer's rights to use client's images

Yes, in fact this is the basic principle of business photography ( or any business ), a happy and satisfied customer will eventually bring in repeated jobs.
In business sense means open up a fixed deposit account with interest coming in. So, why go close that account, unless you're not happy with the bank.

End of the day, the more active account the better.

No problem, just to share some of my own experience.

And talking about copyright usage, there was a talk on copyright items hold by the PPAS, where I'd attended some years ago. The speaker was this Mr. SeeToh of this Makansutra thingy, he had won a copyright abusage case over a telco and the latter had to pay him $30k for compensation. Not bad isn't ?

There is nothing confusing la... Once you lose the copyrights simply mean the photo is not yours anymore... Just like giving something to your friends... he can do whatever he likes to the photos....

however, if you insist on using the photos for your own gain, the person (copyright owner) can sue you for infringement of copyrights even if the photo was taken by you...

A lot of people dont give a damn about copyrights of their photos because afterall, they are not going to sell the photos (as stock photos, etc) or they are not using the photos for their own commercial gain... so thats fine... Problems only arise when circumstances such as that of the TS suddenly happened...

I was thinking along the line whether it makes sense for the photographer to own the copyright but gives up the publishing and commercial rights to the client. After some though, come to think of it, doesn't quite make sense too.. Hmm.. :think: Might just as well go with the default clause in the SG law.

to use it for own portfolio, all photographers need is just seek consent from his customers, most of the time, they are very happy to grant photographers the permission, reason is being photographers must be very satisfied of the works created for them so intend to use it for portfolio..

customers will understand this must be "showcase quality" especially the photographers' works has plenty, they feel honor and happy, like their prints just won competition...

for some customers may feel not comfortable about their photos being showcase around, just thank them, respect their decision and move on.

don't need to go too complicated if only just for portfolio purposes
