Hi guys!

Please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Zann Tiang, you guys can call me zann.

I’m currently working as a Photographer Representative [photo rep for short].
Some of us might not have heard of this term before? Maybe? :P

It’s actually a norm in States and other countries to have photo reps working for Photographers.
The photo reps will help out the photographers in all aspects expect for shooting.
Their main duties include meeting a client on behalf of the photographer, negotiating rates for the photographer, closing a deal on behalf of the photographer, sourcing for more assignments, collecting payment from client…etc.

Of course, the photo rep can help the photographer source for assistants or DI artist to help him complete his assignments. 

So guys, if any of you feel that you are spending too much time dealing with a client and not really enjoying your time as a photographer, do look for me. 

The first thing to do will be to send me a copy of your port folio so that I can start searching for new clients for you.

Please do email me at zannt@singnet.com.sg or contact me straight at 98581782. :)

3 people replied to this msg thru pm.
anyone else interested? :)

Most singaporean photographers are "Freelance" photographers ..... having a full time job and take assignment on hobby basis. Professional Photographers have their own contacts and more often then not, they are piled with it ;). I guess only those who are new photographers turning pro will want your help ;).

let me clear this up

freelance does not mean part time.

If you are your own boss and you can shoot for anyone that pays you, you're a freelance photographer. If you're attatched to a studio and you work under someone, then you're NOT a freelance photographer (since you can't take on external shoots).

hence you can be a
1) fulltime freelance
2) parttime freelance
3) fulltime NOT freelance

Show me the money and you can call me whatever you like. I don't care and I am not bothered by it. :)

:o sounds dodgy... another scam?

ha, in what way does this sound dodgy to you?

scam? be careful of the words you use.

trust me, if you want. else, there's no ground for more business. :)
here are two example sites from the states.

@blurblock: on the contrary, pro photog will need our help even more. why?
if you are already taking on 5 jobs per month with each project coming to more than 3k. you would wanna free up more or your time to take on the 6th or 7th project.
so it need not be the case that only "almost pro photog" need our help. :)

@rueyloon: thank you for helping to explain on "freelance" :)

anyone else interested to know more? :)

suggest u dun go passing yr judgments if u're not knowledgeable on this matter.

photog reps may not b prominent in Sg but it is in other countries. its not an easy job cos lotsa coordination & planning r required.

its good 2 c dat ppl r taking the move towards this line.

anyway no offence meant but its really not nice 2 jump 2 conclusions juz like dat. ;)

dude, photoreps are common in other countries but rare in singapore. this one is the real thing.

I see no harm in questioning. It draws more people out to ascertain facts or scams. Please do not take it personally. :)

ha, no personal feeling towards it. :)

it's true that singapore is slow in catching on certain threads and ideas from other countries. :)

in fact, my partner and i have been thinking alot about doing this in singapore, where ppl are generally more skeptic. [that's a sweeping sentence. :P]

it would really be great if the pro photogs in singapore are willing to step fore and allow us to rep for him/her.

it'll be a on step up for the local photography industry. really.

anyway guys, go easy on chongkm. :) i believe he was just being careful and trying to warn others about this. :) right chong? :)

believe me, photorep will be a norm in singapore. sooner or later.
and it might be done by ppl from other country. well, i would rather a singaporean start this. now what we need is a singapore to believe it works. :)

Well said. Good luck to you and hope I can join you soon.

I believe it works.

But don't imagine me as a pro photog. I shoot mostly for fun. :)

Zann, you have my support.
(same me... )

juz a query, have you done jobs for photographers before? you requested for portfolios from photographers and i think it's fair to let us know your job experience in photo reps. we would want someone who can handle customers and would not offend customers to represent us.

i would be keen to recommend some of my friends or even my bosses/mentors to you (haha not me, i not good enough yet) if u can prove to us u can work well.

kudos to u for providing this service! hope to hear from u soon.

:) true.

answering the question, like i've mentioned before, photo rep is new in singapore.
thus, i do not have prior exp as a photo rep. what i do not have, is exp in sales, and the mentality that this will work. :)

as of now, my partner and i have not decided who we should rep for.
we are looking for 8 good photog at the moment. anymore photog, we'll have to look for more photo rep. one must understand that a photo rep needs a lot of commitment and effort to truly rep for a photog.

as for referal, :)
my partner and i are currently rep for Lance Lee and Pete Wong from Offstone.
they are the ones that raise the issue on photo rep.

we responsed to their call and learn our stuff from them. :)

thank you so much chyeo. :) would love to hear from you soon. :)

pls do give us a chance to make this thing work. :)
once we have the photog, the network is there and the rest is up to the photoreps. goods come before sales.

no offence taken n non meant as well. constructive questions r always welcomed anywhere. but 2 make groundless accusations is indeed not a nice thing. cheers!

ok one stupid question from me:

so i take it that only pros or fulltime freelance photogs can work together and benefit from a photorep?

or do photoreps do referrals to part-time freelance photographers too?

:) this is not a stupid question.
to answer your question.

seriously speaking, a good photorep will only take up to around 4-5 photog.
this is such that a photorep will devote his/her time to "serving" the photogs. :)
make sense?

a good photorep must be someone whom's impartial and transparent about whatever he/she is doing. time management is one big time as well[thus only 4-5 photogs possible for one person], not to mention about selling the correct image to the clients. :)

hope i answered the question? :P perhaps a bit out of point.
[some ppl just talk too much some times, e.g. myself]
