Urgently seeking event photographer for an art therapy program from 10AM to 4PM. Program is quite simple - art activities for about 20 kids in the morning, lunch, then visit to Museum, venues located centrally. This is a last minute call as the main photographer has to attend to a personal matter immediately. There is a token of $150 for the day's work, it is a small sum as this program is not for profit. Please write to olibia at gmail dot com with contact details and some relevant sample works if keen! Thank you for reading.

Urgent but $150 for 6 hrs?....

This is not the first job for low budget.
99% of job here are low budget.
Ppl comment complaint scold
Any improvement ?? No.
It is a open market and price is determine by supply and demand.
If all the low budget jobs are taken mean there are supply for that .
Two choices for Ppl either lower your expectation to compete with them or wait till the supply is died off.

Hello everyone,

I'm the guy who took the job.

And even though I am a freelance photographer, I took this job not because of the money, but for something else more important, and that's networking and connections.

Look, we are all photographers here, and we all know that especially in SG, the market is very small and competitive. As a 2-year freelancer, breaking into the market is a tough thing. There are so many seasoned and better photographers than me out there who have been doing this longer than I have.

I'm not going to BS anyone, but this is a known fact: Either I was going to have an ego and try to "make it" in this industry on my own, or I could start by humbling myself and taking on small jobs and making important connections, which will lead to potential gigs that will pay well and according to what my expected rates are.
That's how the most successful photogs out there have done it, and if knocking on doors, sending out emails and doing small gigs got them started and to where they are today, then I'm going to do the same.

Granted, this is not really a well-paying gig, but the TS already stated that this is a non profit organization, which means they usually have a tight budget or really small budget. And yes, I have seen ridiculous ad postings here where some people want to engage photogs but do not want to fork out money, but there are also genuine cases, and this is one of them.

Just putting my 2 cents. Apologies if I've offended anyone.

Nice.

I share your sentiments. Fully support you. All the best, mate.

You get my respect too! At least you don't start threads like 'No one wants to be a Professional Photographer' or similar..:bsmilie:

Not all low budget requests in this section are the same, so just open your eyes big big and see carefully.
I know this is a charity event for a good cause.
Go for it if you want to take part, don't think about networking, just keep your motive simple, and make someone life better.

Totally agree. The organizer stated it clearly that it's token payment, not job payment. It's for a charity organization hence the photographer is informed before hand on expectation. As for making contacts, from personal experience no charity organization has called me for a full paid job (I have done for 5 so far) because when they do get the fund they'll call a "more pro" photographer. It doesn't seem fair but from the beginning I took the job to do something for myself, helping those who are less fortunate but complain less than me. So usually a charity work is only a charity. If one needs money he has to go after paying clients. Kudos to ghostfinder.
