videographer should thank the flashes,

anyway..the point is not the videographer's mistakes..rather it's the flashes.
even if the videographer didn't make any mistakes, the flashes will still show up on video..den what??
only solution is to bump up the ISO.

Quite aside from the rest of your post which does more or less make sense, I think you are being quite presumptious about the ability of the average official photographer. While I would expect most official photographers to get what is arguably the best viewpoint most of the time, I would strenuously argue against them getting it right all of the time. So to suggest that there is "no way" a "GWC" can get a better shot is laughable.
Second, I'm also quite pleased to see that you figure that you're good enough to have worked out the "best shot". Last I checked photography was an art, open to a multitude of different interpretations and treatments, with the end result being very subjective. There is no real "best" shot or angle to be had. I'll grant you that an experienced professional has the odds in his/her favour when it comes to selecting an arguably better viewpoint over the average "GWC", but it is far from a certainly, and I cannot believe there is such a thing as a "best shot".
As I said though, it sounds like you're certainly confident that you take the best pictures all the time, everytime.

You only need to seek permission from the owner of the house, because you are on premises belonging to that owner.

Therefore, since Official Wedding Photograher is engage by couple, you should inform Couple that you are going to take pictures.

The last few weddings I attended were ruined by GWCs or Uncle Bobs - flashes firing next to the couple, AF assist, beeps, ... not to mention cutting off the official paid photogs. I don't mean to be rude; but we might want to consider whether getting those few pictures for our own satisfaction is worth it. Why not just enjoy the special day as a guest instead?

Some wedding photographers from other countries may decide to stop shooting the wedding entirely if relatives get in their way. I think its in some of their contracts.

to be honest, i have seen a lot of less than inspiring official paid photographer photos..
anyhow, yes, should just enjoy, then some of them have no excuse for bad shots.. cos don't have scapegoats to blame. :bsmilie:
Definitely at weddings, you would try to keep a low profile and not really get into many pictures, but just enjoy the moment for yourself and take some nice group snapshots afterwards. It's always good not to outdo the official photographer in terms of equipment used.. Hahaha.. If not his morale also low then the pictures all no kick.
But you are right in the sense that the official photographer shouldn't push away GWCs but maybe just work alongside him, so that he doesn't get into the picture. Think of it as an unpaid backup photog, and the guy will happily agree

This is not true and misleading
If you have these clauses in the contract that states that family and friends are allowed to take photos as long as they don't interfere with official photographer.
The official photographer have the right to demand other cameramen to stop.
If cameramen refuse, the official photographer have the right to cease operation and is not liable for in completion of job.
It is best that you ask the couple for permission first. its shameful to be labeled as a busybody on other people's wedding where other relatives or friends laugh at you. Its a good extra moment of expressions though.
