Hi, testing my luck to see if anyone got a solution for me. Must disclaimer and say i am an absolute newbie to film

I bought a Pentax 70S off carousell that had a battery problem. Googled and the only DIY solution i found was to clean contacts with vinegar, which didnt help. The contacts looks clean, and my 4AAA doesnt seem to be able to revive this camera. Any possible suggestions on why there's this problem? Is it worth fixing or shld i just display on my shelf LOL

Welcome to clubsnap. In the first place when seller said it has battery problem you should ask seller the actual situation and test camera with batteries loaded to test if it's in working condition before parting with cash. That said batteries must be inserted with the correct polarity as shown on battery cover corresponding to each holder space. Use alkaline battery as normal manganese battery drains fast. Do note zoom70 is designed to take DX coded film. If non coded type film it will default to ASA100 film but there is a workaround online. I attach user manual below. You can download user manual from Butkus.org
( looks like cs does not allow pdf file)
If after trying it still cannot work yes unfortunately treat it as display item.

Don't pay money to some repair shop to service the Pentax Zoom 70s.
You can have my Canon Prima Super 135 point and shoot camera.
Free Of Charge.
As far as I know, it is in mint condition. It has been in my dry box.
It uses two CR123A batteries.
You need to put in a roll of film before the shutter can fire.
When the Canon Prima Super 135 camera is empty of film, it will not activate (it is not spoiled).
This giveaway is not a trick.
There is no hidden agenda.
I simply have too many cameras. Better pass them on to people who may use them.
Let the younger generation enjoy the film camera of past era.
I don't bother to sell them.
Pick a MRT time and place and I will hand it to you.
Or if you hang around Funan or Sim Lim Square, that is OK venue too.

I suspected this might be the reason but I read the user manual up and down and it did not say or was evident. Hope this is the case for ts.

I was referring to my Canon Super Prima 135. Because I tested it with a roll of film to confirm this was the way the camera operated.

I was not referring to the Pentax 70s that Meibao bought off Carousell. I have no idea why her Pentax 70s failed to function with the 4 x AAA bty inserted.
It can also use the 223A or CR-P2 6V battery.

But that might as you have mentioned, coincidentally that be the cause of the problem.

I'm using Energizer which supposedly is alkaline! Also, i followed the polarity on the battery cover! I do admit it was a mistake, and should have done more research before buying the camera :( I tried cleaning the contacts with vinegar because thats the only solution i found online that i could do, but it did not seem to help! I guess i'll just take it as a lesson. Thanks for the manual!
