It little bit risky here to twist the lens 1/2 way (i.e not locked) but just to get the job done.

I guess if I want to save my lens collection, that is about the only way to do it. Or should I post the list in Yahoo auction ? and take to $$ to change towards the tau-pow system ?

Anyway, a suggestion here, since there are a few of us. How about a gathering / SEED of Pentax camera owners. We can meet at Chinatown or somewhere for a shoot out, send the roll for printing, while we yam-char and tok abt our cameras & lenses

You can give ebay a try if you don't mind shipping overseas. I think you'll gain more exposure there than Yahoo Auctions, though you'll probably get more locals at Yahoo Auctions.

Kelvinang,

You have the 40mm pancake len, yum-yum, drooling.
Very hard to find len, combine with Pentax MX, very nice for street photography.

Not really hard to find, but hard to find it at a good price. I used to have it on a ME Super, which is slightly thinner than the MX, and the autoexposure helped a lot in terms of snapshooting. I've since sold the ME Super... maybe some day I'll buy it back again. Now I use it primarily on a MX, and sometimes on the MZ-3 if I feel really lazy to even crank the film advance lever...

hi

wondering if u guys knows abt this feature on the pentax cam.
There is MLU for the pentax manual cam,
juz flick the trigger after u crank the lever.must be fast.
it will lock up the mirror.
works on my SPF, read it that it works on the various pentax manual cam as well cos its a test they carry out in the factory.

I haven't been able to do it on my MX and SP II although both these models have been reported to work with the pseudo-MLU technique. According to a site which I had come across, it seems that the MLU technique works because the contact between shutter release button and camera body was broken as the mirror flips up but before the shutter fires, and the camera body will only fire the shutter if the contact is re-established. It sounds like a manufacturing "bug"... but nobody's complaining of course :-) Maybe they fixed this "bug" in later releases of the cameras.

My first SLR camera and still have.

An old thread...

Was digging through some of my old camera stuff and found a pentax K1000 + 50mm 1.4 that was given to me by a friend when i first picked up photography. Used it for a short while before i headed into the eos direction.

A short comment. The SMC 50mm f/1.4 is a good lens. A VERY good lens. If you can pair up with a suitable body, keep it man.

I myself own a pentax KM + SMC 50mm f/1.4 (but i dropped both lens and body  the mirror is spoilt, the lens barrel is loose still crying every night  )

and a Pentax Z-10 + 28-80mm FA (not that good) and a 70-210mm FA (ok-ok)

I have a KX, SMC- M 50mm f1.4 and SMC-50mm f2.0
Many said SMC-50mm is a dog but somehow I prefer it over the SMC-M 50mm f1.4

I think they change the formula during the SMC-A and f1.4 after SMC-A shd be better.
My SMC-M 1.4 shows vignetting below f4, I still use it a lot cos it's brighter to focus.

Well thats true about the lens, it tends to be softer at the edges. But do you have another photo of it exposed correctly? I think the one above is a bit overexposed. Furthermore it is opened up at f/4 so some of those might wonder why the plant looked so blurry and the colour seems a bit washed out in the first but not the rest of the photo.

Anyway its not a biggie, here's a link for the rest to look at.

Thanks :)

The above are taken at f11 show on the label no f4 sample here. F11 cos wanna have a deeper dof and therefore can see it's sharpness eg. the grass behind the fish. Therefore at f11 there is no softness characteristic here and yes, f4 will be soft for all these lens. What I meant was vignetting, dark corners for SMC-m f1.4 and below. I tried the f2.0 and no vignet even at f2.0

Exposure i dunno, i show these before and got 1 chap say it's underexposed.
So i guess it's matter of taste for individual.

I shot them to see with my eyes cos I wana see how they look like beside numbers. The 3rd len shd be RKN (made by samyang) and not Rikenon (Cosina).

Soft can look nice too ofcos :)
The exposure of the foreground fish looks about the same but SMC-M f1.4 look abit wash out for the background and less sharp for the grass. Maybe it will display better bokeh stop down? I dunno :)

It's not to show here which is better but how the 3 lens taken with same condition look like lor.

Okay...guys/gals......
Let's have ashow of hand for those who owns..pentax manual slr....maybe we can share tips on where to get good 2nd Hand lens....
- Sulhan - Spotmatic SP + 50mm f1.4 SMC

Spotmatic SP (black), SP (Chrome)
SP-II, SP1000, SP500, SV, 2 SP-F.
Many lenses.

Will sell one of my SP-F if anyone interested. It was recently overhauled,
got a new lightmeter and prism... and had a split-focus screen installed. Easier to focus, and one stop brighter. $250 represents a fraction of the cost I've put into the overhaul and new parts.

Selling it as I have decided to use my Bessaflex TM more.

Nice to meet all Pentax supporter here...

I'd stop using my Z1p after I bought the *istD. It works with all my Pentax and Tokina lens. The size is small but the performance is huge.. :what:

Could it be the lens coating that is affecting the colour? I know pentax came out with a few 50mm K-mount lens versions and I assume with slight variations to the lens design and coating.

ello just to add... =)

sorry slow... just saw this thread...

me got a pentax spomatic F dead meter. =(
smc tak 50mm 1.4
a 135mm which i have no idea where i left it...
summore lenses dunno where they are too...
oh! and a sunpak SR22 manual flash. =) still using it... works great!

guys... do u think i shld get it cleaned out? both lenses are webbed but does not affect pic quality.

And the dead meter... anyone knows a quick fix? or how much to fix it. if its too much i wont bother.. sigh. heard its quite ex because of the batteries. been using it without the meter, which is okay i guess.

anyone knows where to get an EOS adapter for my pentax lenses?

Thanks!

Maybe can ask spyer to sell his z1-p. Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the prices (just starting back my hobby). But a few months ago I did went down to Peninsular Plaza to check the repair price. I asked the Uncle from the shop on second floor how much to fix my KM, he quoted me $100~$100+ just to take a look; Just to take a look ~ not yet even repair. He also said it could cost and additional $100 or more depending on the seriousness and parts available. I told him no thanks and then buzz off. I still haven't got it fix yet. And the more I think about it, the more I feel that it is not worth the time and money.

Frankly in my opinion, you're better off buying a second-hand one. You might want to consider that.

You are lucky. My older manual lenses where virtually ignored on the compatable lens listin, when I asked about 1/2 yr ago at an exhibition.

If possible, perhaps we can meet up and I bring my battery of lenses. See if it will work with your *istD. Yeah, kopi on me (but no starbucks pls, hang cheng pai). If it works that is still can fit, focus and do not need to operate in stop-down mode (ie aperture closed as per f-stop), the *istD would be back on my list.

No point getting a 300D and duplicating the lenses...

Well, you can always count on Pentax mounts. The older lens should fit on the new bodies and still retain most functions. Pentax have better backward than Nikon.

Try taking it to Prime camera. Depending on the type of repair (e.g. whether parts are required)... it should cost about $150. That's what they charged to overhaul my spotmatic which is similar to KM. Some parts were required, so I sourced the parts myself.

ooooh great. But not right now though...I'm sourcing for CZ lens.

Which CZ lenses are you looking for? I don't know what's wrong with your KX... but if its the lightmeter I have good news for you.

Parlin told me yesterday that he discovered that if you snap off the meter coupling prong on the camera body.... and if you extend the meter lever coupler of a Prakticar PB lens ... you can pretty much mount a CZ PB lens on a PK body and you get automatic diaphram action. And maintain infinity.
Obviously no metering... so you may want to use a handheld or a hotshoe Gossen digisix meter .

The PB CZ lenses eg 80mm pancolar, 20 flektogon ... are cheaper in PB than in M42. And the build quality is slightly better.
