Pentax K1000

hi,

i've recently acquired a pentax k1000 which has some problems,,,,

first of all, the mirror doesn't flip back into the down position after the shutter is pressed, and will only go back down when manually pushed down


secondly, there is a huge chunk of what seems to be mould in the viewfinder???



does anyone know a fix for the first issue?
and where can i get the camera fixed up at a reasonable price?

Hmm I think you can try P&G at the aldephi or DeCamera Consultant at Paya Lebar. Not sure about the problems that you mentioned personally cos never encountered them

hmm thanks for the recommendations , but could you estimate how much it would cost to CLA it?

It will probably cost 200 or more. A replacement camera will prob cost less.

P&G scratched 2 of my lenses when I sent them there for cleaning. So consider this before choosing a shop to CLA your camera

Kind of agree. A used k1000 on eBay may be cheaper.

welp if anyone has any cheap working manual slrs (really doesn't have to look nice or anything, just has to work) let me know

Mirror not flipping down could be due to the sticky foam in the mirror box. Replace the foam could solve that.

The black chunk in viewfinder might be deteriorated silver of the penta mirror. If that's the case, nothing you could do.

You can bring the camera down to DeConsultant to have Mr Tay take a look before you decide whether to have it serviced.

Easier and cheaper to just buy another one (esp. K1000 is common and cheap on ebay)
Or try the Pentax BnS.

I'd suggest a nice small SLR like the Pentax ME Super actually.
