Pentax K-X questions

thanks guys...

so an eneloop is neither an Alkaline nor an NiMh, right? this is cool...
i think i'll try this...still reading and researching about rechargeable Lithium batteries.

deym they're pricey! at $16 each.... whew!

Eneloops ARE NiMH. BUT they can last longer than normal NiMHs as they are the hybrid types. Rechargeable Lithums dun last as long . . .

ah,

i don't think they will give much of a discount if you buy the white k-x + telephoto zoom lens.

quite unlikely, the package discount only applies for black k-x.

why don't you just go for black?
coz black is ugly to me.. lol
part of the reason i'm leaning on geting kx is coz of the color~ lol

Where are you checking the price from? I paid $16.50 for a set of 4 AA eneloops.

Those $16/pair ones in silver color that you find in NTUC are not rechargeable :o

Rechargeable Lithium batteries need a special charger too.

Might as well get the Eneloops or the Imedions hybrid batteries as they last and last and last and last and last and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Yeah, i support the Eneloops. Recharageable, lasting, save money, and save the earth.

GO GREEN GUYS:p

go mass sales, look for subject eneloop or danielwu, min order 5pack but if you were to cycle 3 pack, you've another 2 pack for flash in future *or other home stuff*
each pack after GST = 16.05 for 4pcs, you might find exp, BUT, considering a cycle usage of min 500 times *should be around there*, effectively, you're spending SGD0.0321 per cycle on 4 batteries :P
and get the 2 hours quick charge, anything faster screws your batteries, anything slower screws your bill...

Well, if you want to further save the Earth, I came across a hybrid NiMH+Alkaline charger at the computer shop at the top floor of Heartland Mall.

And yes, Alkalines can be charged. Just that you need AC charging with a positive duty cycle. I had an older charging circuit diagram during my school days that I intended to built but never went ahead.
Essentially your enemy for charging Alkalines is HEAT. Hence the circuit uses an AC signal with more positive than negative duty cycle. So after each positive cycle, there is a smaller reversed cycle. This enables the charging function to proceed while keeping the battery cooler.

Also, for all batteries, an ideal design would be no loss in charge during storage. However, metallic impurities in the battery causes mini shorts in the battery that progressively drain the power. Removing more of these impurities is the key to batteries that can hold charge for long periods. I believe the eneloops are no more than ordinary NiMH with additional processes that removed more of the impurities (hence the additional cost). As this is a common process, others like GP and panasonic followed with their versions. If not, then Sanyo would have sued them for copyright infringement of their formula. :)

For Lithium I am not as sure. I read somewhere Lithiums are inherently dangerous and needs alot of safety circuits within the battery to ensure safety. And because different manufacturers uses different designs, using a charger of 1 brand with the battery of another is NOT a good idea, which is why its difficult to find a Lithium AA charger. (At least that is how I remembered)

i dun think its seal, but it will be new definitely...

what u get inside, a camera body with cap, kits lens, instruction manual, strap, CD i think can't remember since i dun use it, dunno got cables or not can since i dun use it as well... there will be no battery or charger since this takes AA and its not included....

ask the shop can test or not, ask for batt to test, check the lcd display, go through some of the menus, but dun set the time or anything... mount the lens, check the focusing, focus near, focus far, ask if can take 1 shot, if cannot then say i sure buy 1, of course u better be a serious buyer... take 1 shot see happy or not... check if any physical defects on the cam body... if u are the super kiasu, bring a laptop and load the image to check... but i think this is more for checking lens...

ah?
how come not sealed 1?
by the way, there should be 4xAA energiser lithium batteries..

None of the boxes are vacuum sealed. Even for cameras I ordered previously from overseas. So Pentax probably packs it this way by default. BTW, the K-X should come complete with 4 Lithium Energizers in the package. Ask for it if its missing. It should be written on the "What's in the Box" list unless Pentax removed it for later batches to cut cost. :)

i have a qns to ask.... for the raw files... which is better? PEF or DNG file type shld i choose? and when i bought the k-x it comes with a disc... so... is it possible to open the raw files???? pls heeeeeeellpppp me..... thanx! ^^

if im not wrong, dng can open with photoshop.
but pef can't open in photoshop.
dng is adobe's standard raw format, while pef is pentax's own raw format.

If you don't know, please don't post because your info is misleading. :thumbsd:

Both .PEF and .DNG files can be opened by both Adobe Photoshop and Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4. DNG is Adobe's open standard file format, so any version of Photoshop will be able to open it but for PEF files, if the camera is newer than the software, the metadata embedded in PEF RAW files from that camera might not be read correctly unless the software used to read the RAW information is upgraded to include that particular camera's profile. Adobe Camera Raw (Photoshop/Lightroom) has no issues opening .PEF files.
