K-x is having plastic body with stainless steel chassis. just like skin and bones...

Cos I read from the web, some said it's plastic, some said it's stainless steel.
When I showed to my fren, he commented cheap plastic. :bheart:

No offense, if ur fren is the one manufactured the plastic then YES, its cheap. ;p
But so far, the built is quite good. I was worried about the size since I got big hands, but it fit quite well. Plasticky or not, its a great camera that I have ever bought. Very happy with it.:thumbsup:

Yeah man. K-X is a great camera, I love it.
Don't care abt that fren. For cameras he doesn't care about the image quality, the 1st thing he look out for is whether it's made of metal & how many megapixel?

Ask that fren to buy the old style SLRs as they are all made of metal.

All plastic is cheap.
The diff is not cheap plastic vs expensive plastic. Its the finish of the plastic, the Kx has a smooth shiny finish that gives the 'cheap' impression. Some surface roughness on the same plastic material and it will look and feel different.
Just shoot more photos and show your friend those instead of the camera
Erm, I got read the post long time ago is that if u wanna know ur Camera can take IR or not, take a remote controller (IR) and focus ur camera on it, press the TV remote controller and if u see the red dot, then its compatible. I did tried it on my Panasonic and can see it.
Just what I know la. If wrong then sorry. ;p

I've emailed him the pics which is definitely better than his 4yrs old Fuji PNS. He pretend nothing happen, no word to my pics. :think:

body material depends on the usage, let him/her touch the magical K-7 with magnesium body and he's goin' to be stunned... ;p

ive tried what you said and K-x did capture a somewhat violet color from the remote. i tried it with the lights off.
i think better read IR photography section to know how IR photography works
Sometimes I wonder what ppl intend to do with their cameras. Swing it wildly at the thug who is trying to part you of it? Stand in single step ladder?
I do my best not to put it at risk and certainly take very good care that I don't drop it. How often do ppl drop their cameras anyway, as opposed to say our handphones.
In fact, I've never seen the drop test rating or data or mechanical shock data for most consumer electronics, cameras included. Who guarantees the camera from drops anyway? They only emphasize rugged construction to help market the impression of robustness to physical damage. Fact is that all metal exterior may not be the best either. How are the components damped against mechanical shock?

Buy an Ovaltine can, punch a hole and put a 14MP PnS inside. (preferably Pentax!). Now your friend will have a high MP camera with metal chassis. :bsmilie: Seriously, I think the K-x is very nicely built. Don't think the plastic look cheap at all especially the black model.
The coloured ones look less rugged (and seemingly lighter) because they want to give it that high class look instead.
Yup. Held a K7 and the quality and feel is top notch. The Kx feels "plasticky". Initially was worried that the color will fade or peel but someone on the forum mentioned that the color is not painted but rather the color dye was mixed into the plastic resin.
