Just got a PC-Nikkor 35mm lens today. This is one cool lens to play. With an adaptor ring, I managed to mount it on my Xpan II. Took few test shots using the original xpan 45/4 lens and the PC-nikkor. Fuji 200 color negative. As the shop cannot scan for me, no choice but to use a macro lens to copy the image off the light-box. As there is a strong brown cast, the inverted image looks nothing but blue. gave up, just convert it into B&W, attached below:

pic 1. Xpan 45f4 lens:

pic 2. PC-Nikkor 35/2.8 lens:

From the test shots above, quite clearly seen, the pc-nikkor 35 has quite a bit wider view as compared to the xpan 45, and has more vignetting. (BTW, ignore the crappy quality of the test shots.)

Now I have two questions:

1. can anyone tell me, from pic 2, what is the angle of view that the pc-nikkor has produced? (I need to go find a separate viewfinder to use this baby on the Xpan II )

2. Is there any shop capable of scanning Xpan's format (24x65mm)?

TIA

I tried the Xpan 30mm before...., the angel are similar to 90mm for 6X17 camera, a 35mm.... maybe a 105mm 6X17 camera finder.

I use my old Canon scanner 4200F and it can scan XPAN neg perfectly using manual mode but it will take a long time and have to do in 2 batch negative. IMHO as long as 35mmm neg scanner has capability on manual mode, i.e. manual setting of what is to be scanned, xpan neg scan can be done. if you have some sort of scanner above you can do it yourself

i more interest in the adapter, i.e. type, brand and where to get, can you elaborate more?

agree on vignetting of Nikkor lens

Nikon F-Xpan adaptor, no brand (most likely made in China.) got if off eBay for S$250. Well-made and works perfectly.

I have the F-Xpan adapter too, used the 28mm PC on Xpan( no rangefinder coupling), super wide, but vignetting at both size, I think it blocked by the adapter.I have the film holder, scan with Imacon Flextight 848.

Yol 925,

"2. Is there any shop capable of scanning Xpan's format (24x65mm)?"

There is a kodak lab named K1000 at the basement of Excelsior, besides coffee shop central 99. They told me that their kodak machine has the template for Xpan, this is for Xpan negative, but scanning positive I am not sure, you can ask them.

I use my Microteck Scan Maker i800 9600x4800 Dpi 48bit colour for scanning my Xpan slides and also 4x5, 6x17 slides. Invest in a scanner that provides scanning plate for Xpan.

I have an XPan and a 28mm Nikon PC. Been looking for the adapter but can't seem to find any.
Where did you find yours ?

Thanks

I've been looking on EBay for this adapter. Do you remember the seller you bought it from and how long ago did you buy it ?

Thanks
