Parents, do you have a maid?

I think all maids have a standard pattern of behaviour, just like those indian foreign workers. When my maid were new in our house, she was very obedient and ate most of the food we give her, which is the same as what we eat. We dun cook different for her. But now after 1 yr plus, she will tell us she wants to eat this and that. When my twins had leftover previously with chunks of meat, my mom would want to throw it away but she insisted she wants to eat - previously. Now, she just throws it away.

I think after some times, they will get abit smarter and starts to follow our lifestyles and know what is good and what is bad. I think this is normal. I think we can treat the maid good but we got to draw the line between emloyee and boss line very very clearly, got to remind them that they are still working for us as a maid. We can treat them good but never never break the line between boss and workers, then it will become very difficult to work together.

I can't imagine 3 of them sitting down at night to plan how to get back at their owners....... heheehe.... tough job to manage a single maid, can't imagine having 3 maids.....

each maid has a specific task to do.different storey of the house, different section of the house.
it's very clear cut the duties given to them.it was explained to them and signed in BNW before they even start work.

having maids are tough.especially when they 'chut pattern'...so to speak.
but after filtration, these 3 stayed the longest with my family.
one of them has been with us for 6 years.she's so called the maid-of-honour...
so if there's any info to be relayed to the other 2, she'll be the messenger.

admit it...maids are really NOT easy to handle.

as a maid commander, i always move my arms like a traffic controller when there is a big party. i hate parties as i am the one getting around worrying about it!

A suitable costume will be power ranger so i can fly to nearby supermarket on an ad hoc basis through the night.

no maid. like many bros said, some are good some are bad.

my gf has a student whose family goes on holiday back to the maid's kampung . a good experience for the kids as not many of us know and have the experience of kampung life today.

i have family members who have bad and good experience with their maids so it depends on your luck too.

for me... i wonmt take a maid. have you seen how close maids are with your kids these days ? enough to call the maid more motherly than wives ?

Maid is a concept that only few countries in the world adopt... and the little red dot is one of the major participants.

In ang mo country, don't have such thing... what they have is cleaning ladies to clean the house, nannies to take care of the kids, pet-sitters to take care of pets, gardeners to take care of the garden and if you have elderly that needs special care, they also have people who do that... very specialised and noone stays in your house.

If you really sit back and think about it, the concept of having a maid is really quite a strange thing... to have someone come stay in your house so that they can help you clean your house, take care of kids, take care of old people, take care of pets, take care of garden and be at your beck and call 24/7. The person stays in your house, gets fed by you and yet is not regarded as part of the family... something closer to a do-it-all machine. And to think that a family needs this extra help 24/7.

And then this maid takes care of the kid 24/7... instead of the kid's parents. The only one who should take care of the kids 24/7 should be the parents! Now maid becomes kid's parent - feeds kid, brings kid to school, plays with kid, listens to kid, calms kid when in fear, showers kid, does everything for the kid that the parent should do.

I don't know how to put it... but perhaps if you have lived overseas and are able to see things from their POV, you will see that the concept of having a maid is rather strange indeed.

In the western countries, they value their privacy more than anything else - so its common that having a maid to stay at their house is not common.

Having the maid should not reduce the responsiblity of each parents. I have a maid, and now I find I have more times for the kids and I even have time to cook. The maid will mop the floor, iron the clothes, clean the house which take up most of my time previously when we were without a maid. Now i bring my kids for morning walk, watch cartoons with them, go ice skating etc which i think its good to have maid.

Having maid is not totalling bad, its just how much we can utilise them and not to 'abuse' them. Its hard to make the maid part of the family, bec she is here to work as a maid (period) and we have to draw a strict line on this, just make sure we treat her humanely but remember, she will only work for you provided she treat you as her boss, otherwise there will be problems. The line cannot be crossed....

My maid eat what we eat, we dun give her leftovers. If she is tired, we allowed her to rest. Take anything from fridge to eat, np but we requsted her to ask our permission first. of course, we never refuse. We buy Seahorse mattress for her to sleep in an empty room, not on the floor. A section of cupboard to keep her stuffs. We let her call home at least once a fortnight, weekly also can.

So? Maid still the best..... :thumbsup:

This is my point of view and the reason why I don't get a domestic helper.

A maid is the new form of slavery (very personal opinion). Even the term 'maid' is derogatory and harks back to the old days of 'class' and policemen in bermudas.
Someone does the stuff I/you dislike doing most, but get paid a pittance (think that $200-300+ is that great?)

I imagine myself (or you for that matter) doing chores 24/7 (I can do cleaning, but I hate laundry...but dom helper bo...pian.. cannot choose), at beck and call (your boss do that to you, U "du-lan" a not???), eat leftovers, sleep in storeroom, etc.
So how? Does it feel Good... Certainly NOT!

On the other side of the coin, there is the employer/employee dilemma. Its a reality as well that an domestic helpers have gone astray with lack of employer control, almost everyone knows someone/s with these stories.

So to prevent myself becoming a '*******' employer and falling into this dilemma of balancing between grace and despotism, I choose not to use a domestic helper.

Most western countries have a law/respect for individual freedom and privacy. So the "I am your lord and master ...... for $250...... " arrangement is a no-no.

Had a few Indonesian maids for a short period of time.

Gave up on them cos there was no way I could leave my toddler and new born with them while I worked.

So I stayed and home and became the maid instead.
