Panosaurus 2.0 - A Spherical Panoramic Tripod Head

Yes, Panosaurus is in Singapore.

Being Landscape enthusiasts, we know sometimes our wide angles just won't cover the grandeur that spreads in front of us. So we resort to stitching several shots together, and having a composite of images to present the architecture or the landscapes we see before us. Often, without a proper tool, you'll find some of the stitches not optimized, or worse, could not stitch all together.

We have been sourcing around for a value for money, easy to use Panohead for awhile. Essentially, we really wanted something really simple, a solution that's easy to setup and use. It must also not cost an arm or a leg. We are all enthusiasts and if it cost a few hundred dollars we'll rather be plonking that kind of money on a wide-angle lens/fisheye.

We arrive at Panosaurus 2.0.

We wouldn't repeat all the great writeup about the Panosaurus in The Art of Greg Rubottom, Home Of The Panosaurus Panoramic Tripod Head. Please refer to the website for all the details, and if you've got any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

At Photosphere, we always believe that you've got to see the product in action. If you are still in 2 minds whether to get this after your many hours of research, do join us for a morning sunrise or a late evening blue hour shoot, and we'll be happy to walk you round the mechanics of this great product.

Now available at an introductory price (for Singapore) until 31st July - S$150.

Hi

Can you advise how is the packing of the Panosaurus like? E.g. does it come in a box etc?

Thanks.

Hi DMajor,

It comes with box with the individual "arms" are bubble packed. Hope that answers your question

Cheers

Er ... maybe my question has to be rephrased. I was actually wondering how to carry it around for usage. Like do I have to carry a suitcase etc.

Hi,

A carrier of size of a shoebag is more than sufficient.

In fact, each of the separate units can be separated, and will fit into a typical toiletries' bag with ample of space left in it. We managed to fit a Phototix Multi-clamp together with the Panosaurus 2.0. If you are taking panos (single or multi row) of HDB estates with the setting sun, I would just carry this toiletry bag containing the clamp and the panosaurus to site for the shots! No need for a tripod.

You need to make sure you internalized the settings that will give you the nodal points. Once you reach the site of your shoot, assemble the dismantled arms within a few minutes and you are ready for your shot.

:dunno: QUESTION - Can you use a camera plate or a camera arca swiss clamp on the camera mounting side of the Panosaurus?

The answer is Yes, and No.

Yes, as there is room to attach a Arca Swiss clamp on the camera arm. But please find one that's slimmer in design and the camera plate should also be slim in design (I find the markins' plates quite slim). However, please note that the base of the camera, in this case will include the thickness of the base plate and the clamp, will be lengthen. If this means that your base of your camera (with the L-plate or any camera plate with the clamp's thickness) to the center of the camera mount is more than 63mm, there will be no more space to move the horizontal piece on the bottom piece.

This means most of the smaller cameras will work. I have tried with Panasonic GX1, Ricoh GXR, Pentax K-01, Olympus EM5, EPL5 and they all work. Just remember the following, the base of the camera starts where the base of the clamp is.

The use of the clamp is sometimes useful to work with cameras that doesn't have a tripod mount that's off-center. You have a camera plate that allows you to adjust the camera to the center. EM-5 is one such camera.

The "beauty" of this setup is so that you do not even need to purchase a camera plate or need of any clamps. Screwing with the provided screwdriver is very simple job. This basically means you don't have to spend loads on camera-plates, clamps etc if you've not already got one.

The current introductory price is slightly (and ever so slightly) above the price of the cheapest panning clamp you can find in Singapore currently, and it still doesn't give you the ability to take almost effortless panoramas until you get the rail. And that's not even multi-row, which the Panosaurus is.

thank you for replying my question,

I guess it is not possible for most mid size DSLR users to use a Arca Swiss clamp on this Pano Head. So no quick release available. Unless ask this guy to do a custom clamp to replace the original tripod mount of this pano head. Hejnar Photo Store, Serving Your Professional Photography Needs.

btw, can find the height of tripod mount to lens axis here. if anyone interested.

Great info, catchlights. I went over the Hejnar Photo Store, and Sunwayfoto store. There are a few possible candidates to replace the camera mounting block. Panning Clamp DDH-03 has 2 1/4" holes (Screw thread) which I think can be used to mount the camera. There's also the 2.375 inch clamp with two captive style slot Special Clamp from Hejnar which may also work as it's got the same 1/4" holes (that's got screw thread).

But I cannot confirm since I cannot be sure of the pitch. Also I haven't had experience with any yet, so I cannot confirm if it works.

Hi,

Just pm u on this Pano head. Thanks

Hi,

Is there any shop/place that I can visit to try out this pano head? I can't make it for the demo this Sunday..

Thanks!

Just picked up a Panosaurus 2.0 today. To be honest I was apprehensive but (i) it's easy to set-up, (ii) easier to set-up again once you've set it up and determined the settings, and (iii) the quality is really good, price not withstanding. Will try to put up a detailed review soon. :)
