Panasonic LX5 new user

Um what's your firmware version number? Mine is 1.0, can our firmware be different?

MIne is 1.0 too. Wonder if this is the updated ones. I know LX3 has an improved version ie 1.3, same number as GF1.

I do get sharp handheld pictures at 1/4 but now and then the handshake warning will come on and I'll up the shutter speed. But at 1/10 the handshake warning never comes on. In the old days before O.I.S. I read that there is a rule of thumb of not going below 1/60 but i suppose that's obsolete now?:bsmilie:

good old-fashioned rules never go out of fashion LOL. remembering them will come in handy one day :D

Just got my lx 5, as I dont have the cd-rom in my netbook, so i just managed to read the hard copy user manual.

I'm a canon 400d + ixus 70 user, but also not quite used to "so many" functions (i.e scene mode/color mode/IA) in a compact PnS, like the "Step zoom", "Lens resume","i resolution"-low/standard/high and etc.

Bought it because I travel alot, got to make more space in my backpack....

just got my LX5 today! just played around for a while.. charging battery now... perhaps we can organise a group shoot or outing for fellow LX5 users to exchange tips and share passion for photography? =)

Some claims from users/testers of LX5 that is interesting to note.

Subject these claims to your own confirmation:

The sharpest focus is when aperture range from 2.8 to 4.0, at 5.6 or higher focus gets softer due to diffraction.

ISO is optimal from 80 - 200 at 200 LX5 is better than most all compacts in its class.

Intelligent resolution(I.R.) is merely in camera sharpening that only affects jpg images, RAW is not affected(I.R. is off)

After reading through the posts, I feel that I'm even more a newbie than anyone else! Only know how to set to Auto and snap. Bought a third-party lens adapter, till now, I don't even know how to really make full use of it.

Pictures review in LCD tends to be brighter than PC.

I thought I took a good picture when review in the LCD, however it was very dark when I loaded them into my PC, it was a really big difference....

Anyone know how to lower the brightness of the LCD? Or any setting that can put LCD's brightness on par with the PC?
I turned the LCD mode to OFF, and I turned my pc to brighter already, haiz.....

try turning on the histogram and make sure the graph dun touch the left+right most edge
the photo should look slightly over exposed on LCD but it will turn out fine on screen :)

Anyone know how to rotate image in LX5?
I have the Rotate display to ON. But cannot find any button or more option to set the pic to rotate.. Any idea anyone??

Thanks

Depends on the ambient lighting conditions when you take your pics. Daytime you'll not notice the difference but during twilight it is especially pronounced. The final 2 sec preview pic is a lot closer to the PC than the one seen while composing the shot there is also a difference there... Usually just to be safe, I'll take a IA mode pic as well as I know the IA mode pic will turn up properly exposed either as a backup or as a side by side comparison on the LCD.

Anyone know where to get more information about lense and filter for LX5
http://images.hardwarezone.com/uploa...5d5977a504.jpg

All information on the accessories for the lx5 can be obtained from the panasonic website itself. As for the pricing of the items, you'll have to google the individual items one by one, the CPL filter for example can range from s$125+(japanese website) to US$60+ etc...

Har? Actually I've never used that feature but you can only rotate pics you take in portrait view? After you've done your settings, you exit to display mode, the rotation should be automatic?

I think a more important feature is that you can zoom it to 8x the pics under display mode to check the results/clarity... etc by flipping the zoom/wide lever when pic is displayed.

Hi may I know when u call panasonic, were they patient and nice enough to really explain everything that you asked?

I just bought a new lx5 and not very sure how to use it. Firstly, may I know how can I upload my recorded video to my computer xp version? I plug in and all it reflect are my photos. No video at all. I searrched all folders but none.. yet its in my camera.

Also, since the intelligence auto is so powerful that it can cause Aperture effect. Does that mean the Aperture function is redundant? I tried playing around with the Aperture but I just can't seems to get the background blurry. Can someone teach me please. Maybe with settings and explainations?
