Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX100 & LEICA D-Lux Type 109

I see. So would u prefer the Lx100 over the RX100?

i did purchase the leica version of the lx100 hehe.... that said the rx100 is no slouch. most users will be happy with either. rx100 i like the nice compact size.

JJC version of autocap available... but it looks..... see it yourself.. but it offer a better depth to house a common lens filter which the original pany one is constraint...

Looks rather ugly. Y cant they copy the original design and just make it slightly thicker by 2mm to accomodate a usual slim filter

Got one of these chargers. Very useful when travelling cos I can charge the battery on the go using any portable battery pack rather than look for an outlet. prefer the direct charging possible on cameras like the Sony A6000 but this is still a decent second best.

Got one of these for my former 12-32mm lens.. put already cannot take out anymore lol

duno if the screwing mechanism is the same as that, or if this one can still take out..?

Anway already spent $90 on an original leica one.. never look back lol.. And dun need filter if have the cap already isn't it?

what's the rationale of putting a lens cap and then still one more layer of filter on top of it? unless you guys are talking about ND filters?

Being used (and still currently using) to the Oly Pen E-P5, using the Leica D Lux sometimes feel a bit lifeless.. Duno if anyone understands what I'm talking about?

When you press the shutter button of the Oly, you can feel the mechanical shutter going off, like shooting a gun with a bit of recoil, or driving a car which gives good steering-wheel feedback, giving you a bit of a feels

The Leica only produces a faint click sound upon trigger.. Doesn't really inspire confidence (although of course the pictures would suggest otherwise) and as much as I can, I try avoid switching the silent mode on lol.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but silent mode = catching moving stills?

Anyone knows if there's any difference in long term effect of using silent mode on vs off? Will using silent mode all the way prolong camera life etc etc?

It is expected, as leaf shutters are often quieter.

I think 'silent mode' = electronic shutter. While you can reduce shutter wear (esp if you shoot a lot of timelapses), it may or may not translate into extending the life of the camera as a whole, as there are so many other components, and what's to say a shutter with a low count won't fail prematurely? ;p More for peace of mind that you're not wearing it out excessively.

A few recent shots, been using the filters quite a bit.

I had the same experience, JJC hood on the 12-32 and it got stuck. Had to go back Pana for a fix, hiah.

Anyway I ended up getting the Leica auto-lens cap for my Type 109 and really no looking back.

I do have a filter on my lens front element (COkin one recommended by the king of BBB - Ricleo) and it helps in that I know when i'm cleaning the front element I know I'll never scratch the element itself which happened to my D-Lux 6 back then.

hehe for me its also for the extra protection as the auto lens cap does have gaps in between the petals. i rather be cleaning dust off a filter rather than cleaning dust off the front element

Anyone has any pouch which fits the lx100?

The Leica full case is too hard for my liking. Also a bit obvious its a Leica.

Don't really like half cases.

Just want something I can slip into with minimal bulk.

Any recommendations?

Me too. Prefer to be cleaning the filter instead of front element.

Just wondering where is a gd place to purchase the Leica version? What's the avg mkt price for it ?

just get from the official leica stores? bought mine from mandarin gallery.. only because if i'm about to spend $1700 on a camera, i'd rather get the premium feel of being in a store with nice privacy than in an open walkway like the one at vivo lol

can also get it from cathay photo at prices slightly better than the leica boutiques.

btw the dlux / LX100 are really awesome compacts for the CNY visiting season. Group photos taken easily with the remote app on cellphone with the photographer (me) inside the frame, and easily sent to relatives and friends!

Not sure if it makes a difference, but for those that are interested to get your Leicas, hold your horses. Apparently there will be a Lightroom refresh very soon (rumoured first week March). So wait till Leica refreshes the LR version then?

i don't think it makes a difference as the free LR is a download of the latest version available using a code provided by leica.

Yep, know that but I guess you need to wait till Leica refreshes the LR serial database with LR 6 serials? Although I believe Adobe does provide a free upgrade for purchases before a certain cutoff date. :)
