Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX100 & LEICA D-Lux Type 109

lol didn't buy.. i feel the camera a bit of a smudge/fingerprint magnet though.. might consider getting it.. where and how much would one cost?

Just wondering what are the differences in the leica version that attract people to buy it.

the processor, the extended warranty, the free lightroom, and probably most attractive part is - the brand..

a lot to do with the red dot and the "made in japan" assurance when i decided to pop in the extra $600 over the LX100. the LR and 3 year warranty was a nice extra. Might still be able to salvage a bit of money if I decide to sell off this cam 1~2 years down the road with also 1~2 year warranty still on the cards.

sold off many of my wide and rarely used M43 lenses recently to make this purchase anyway, so I only needed to top up a bit more. now if only somebody would buy my 25mm 1.8, i'd feel a lot less guilty about this purchase lol

hehe actually if you talk about RRP the difference is 500 between the leica and the panny.

500 for 3 years warranty, Made in Japan, Lightroom and subjectively a cleaner, nicer "leica" body design. That said, the lx100's built in grip is really handy and makes the camera handle very well.

colors and images wise i don't feel there is a material diff between dlux and lx100 after meeting up with wonglp to compare

Yeah been trying to look for direct jpeg comparisons between the LX100 and DLUX online but hard to find. Mostly reviews on handling differences.

Really it's the sense of ownership of my first red dot which made me take the plunge and give up half of my m43 collections (i used to have 6 lenses)

My camera is 2 days old and already it has attracted quite a bit of smudge even though it's matt finishing. Might consider getting that half leather case some time soon. I've seen somewhere earlier in the thread somebody cut some leatherette to paste on the camera as a skin.. but if one day I decide I don't want it anymore, it'll leave a sticky residue on the body, yes?

And in terms of image quality.. Duno if it's placebo effect, but the images I've taken with the D lux so far seems to have some kind of soul.. Duno how you explain it. But it has the same "feel" as those emo images you see in tumblr lol

And by the way.. The box says "Designed by Audi" or "Audi Design" sth like that.. Means the box is designed by Audi or the camera is designed by Audi? Cause if it's the latter, then yah, you're paying extra for boutique design as well lol, although I'd fire whoever is marketing this because I didn't even know it's designed by Audi until I saw the box in person.

Also, being a GoPro user, I've been using the Wasabi power battery as a 3rd party replacement. Been reliable and I trust it, and I also like the fact that they provide a charger that lets you charge 2 batteries at 1 go.. So I bought it for this camera as well.

With the LX100, I actually quite liked the feel of the bare metal finish. I found that smudges are quite easy to wipe off at the end of the day with a 3M Scotch-Brite Microfiber cleaning cloth. Quite commonly available for $6-$7 in shops like NTUC. Can give that a try. I do have sweaty palms, so I prefer to avoid additional materials that tend to absorb perspiration as it can eventually start to smell :bsmilie: But perhaps that's why I also have the habit of wiping my equipment after use, so don't really find it a hassle.

Did my first hyper lapse (first time ever) with the Panasonic LX-100.

Shot in full Res. All handheld. No Tripod. Pop in Premier, export to .Mov. Export to AfterEffects to stabilizer.

Disclaimer: Not an expert. First time doing. Really happy w LX-100.

What?! No tripod? Didn't expect after effects stabilizer to be so good.

Can the D Lux do the same hyper lapse effect?

yeah. the post stabilisation in AE is good.

the leatherette is very nice. actually it is made of vinyl, which is synthetic, and not real leather, hence will not absorb sweat or retain smell like real leather. Usually quite easy to remove if u just apply some heat via a hair dryer. that's what i do for my leatherettes when it is time for replacement or change in design.

I wished the LX-100 had the option of the grip.

perhaps the rubber grip can be peeled off if you dare to try hehe... and replace it with leatherette of your choice!

actually why not pany come out with the silver/black version.. the full silver just looks a little plasticky (to me)...

Yeah. Feels like it's too shiny huh. Maybe so that ricleo can use it for modding. ;p

A quick mockup:

Uploaded the 4K version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc_X9GvE88M&feature=youtu.be.

Pictures taken w Lx-100 in full resolution. Resized to 4K dimension. Joined in Adobe Premier Pro. Export to Adobe AfterEffects for stabilization.

Second time doing. I felt that the 1920 x 1080 version looked more stable.
