Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8

U have stable hands/tripod ;)

My hands aren't as steady as they used to be, but I worked without image stabilization for so long, and without a tripod, that I found any way I could to keep steady.

I haven't done anything like this for 30+ years until that night.

Question on SD card.

When I bought the camera 3 weeks back, I was given a U1 speed 16GB SD card. Today I went to redeemed my additional free gift (ie battery, SD card & 25mm lens), I was given a U3 SD card.

I'm curious if I was given the wrong SD when I purchased the camera? I did think it's odd to be given a U1 speed card when the camera I bought is a 4K camera.

So for Gx8 owners, what card was given at point of purchase?

Free gift is U1. You should top up for U3 card.

OIC... I wasn't asked if I wanna top up for a U3 :(

The card is still unopened. Wonder if I could go back to TOP up...

How much to top up? Thx.

Oh, another question is that I always find the pictures tend to be underexposed, even when I have my prime lenses at their widest. So far I've been using the camera indoors. Every time I download them via wifi, I will need to brighten the picture by quite a bit. Sometimes even after I've increased the exposure by 1 stop I still need to post adjust it to brighten up the pic.

I don't have same issue with my Gx7. Did I miss anything???

Actually u did get a U3 card from the additional gifts right , the U1 card will suffice for typical use la :)

I don't seem to have a problem with my GX8. Have you updated the firmware and customized your GX8 settings to work the same as your GX7?

Get new one if you need, I don't think they will allow youth top up.
Get new one if you need take video. I suggest least 64 because beside video, you can take 4K photos and do extract photos that you prefer in-cam. Can easily "eat up" the space. For me, I top up $70 for 64gb U3.

camera shops are never the place to buy memory cards from... So I wouldn't recommend "topping up"

I've updated the firmware with my Gx8. Similar settings with my Gx7 I think. I normally set my camera to Aperture priority and I'm using existing lenses. Guess have to continue to observe.

Actually I went to buy a 64gb U3 from Sandisk, that's why I didn't open up the 16gb. Anyway, just curious if I was given the wrong card. Guess not. ;p

I would suggest learning about the Custom settings on the command dial. You can save various settings to a Custom position and change quickly between a number of settings. While there are only 3 positions on the dial, I believe there are 5 sets, 3 on the C3 position. It helped me on the GH4 and also on the GX8.

What metering mode are you on? Try playing around that setting?

If you can post examples here, it will help us to see if the camera is really consistently underexposing your images. Maybe you just have a preference for 'brighter' shots, then you can set your preferred exposure comp as a custom setting.

Did you check if your lens firmware is the latest ?

Anyone knows what's the current price for the GX8?

Last week was quoted $1450 with the 14-42 kit lens + freebies offered in Dec promotion.
