Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8

Personally I rather they improve the DR & ISO performance to match those on the Fujifilm. If it does, it would be really be a game changing. :)

So, the dynamic range and iso performance in the fuji system is better than m4/3 system ? That is the reason why Keith switched camp lately ? :bsmilie: lol ...

Panasonic neither admit nor deny about this rumor.

Does it really matter ? Sony is the biggest sensor manufacturer in the world which supply the sensor for Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Fuji (X-Pro2), and now Panasonic.
Similar to Intel processor inside your computer desktop, laptop, and tablet.

No absolutes better or not la.

For example , one thing is sometimes people forget that we discuss a system and not just the size of the sensor. Some of the fanboys I talk to ring their discussions on just one factor, sadly.

MFT still has an extremely good balance between price, size, weight and performance unmatched by most brands and is now much more mature . Fuji is upcoming fast and it's it's fair share of strengths and weaknesses too.

I think the big news is the 20mp sensor cause it means we might be seeing a em-1 mk II with 20mp! Add the high res mode could result a 50mp photo?!

Smart ;) to me, it's not more the better - but a significant step in MFT as we push towards 20mp while maintaining quality.

it's not just about megapixel count that purely determines quality (Sony A7S is 12mp and Nikon D4 is a 16mp camera but these 2 are also high end cameras excellent in the right hands too)

In perspective , even a recent remake of a years old sensor by another brand with a crazy high mp count didn't make much of a splash. Customers are more discerning nowadays.

Ok, you can start by buying GX8 then ... lol .. :bsmilie: :gbounce::cheergal::cheers:

I just bought the GF7 for another purpose. GX8 is in the pipeline maybe early next year.

It is said that the GX8 may be using a sensor developed by Sony. If it's true then why Sony allows their competitor to use the new 20MP sensor first instead of them using it first ? Just wondering ...

Sony is not like Apple, where their final products like iPhone earn them the absolute profits. Sony's sensor and camera division has no vertical integration compared to say Apple's iPhone and their A8 processor used in the iPhone.

Sony's sensor business sells to other companies in order to make profits and is sort of independent to the camera business division. There is a critical mass to meet before the manufacturing costs reduce to a level that has economy of scale.

Have tried the new Fujifilm camera with their X-Trans sensor, personally it offer comparable DR & ISO performance(compared to 5DMIII) if you are shooting ISO 6400 and below. But their video & lens selection still have some room for improvement.

Like what Keith had mention earlier, for m43 you are buying into a system not only the sensor tech only. This is why I took m43 as my secondary system: https://www.facebook.com/Anson.Chew.SG/posts/10153524293958556?pnref=story

I would rather they remain or even reduce their resolution and improve on their IQ.

OT: Ultra high MP (aka 42MP & 50MP) have little draw to me as its not often request by clients, even if there were such requirement it would make more economic sense to rent it for the job. To me it's all about ROI.

Hope the camera is out soon to Asia (B&H list as 16 August 2015). Itching to buy a Panasonic camera to go with the Panasonic Trinity that I have. The CA on their lenses when shot on non-Panny bodies is driving me mad.

Would be better if Panasonic carries this in Singapore soon ... :bsmilie: :)

On panasonic singapore webpage, the GX8 comes with 3 options:

1) Body only
2) with 12-35 kit lens
3) with 14-42 kit lens

Since the GX8 is already listed in their Panasonic Singapore website, does this mean anything ? Does this mean we do not have to wait so long like the GH4 ?

Thank you

Amazon JP states release date as 20 Aug. Not too long a wait...Hopefully it will be a similar rollout timing for SG.

Time for my GH3 upgrade? .. slurp..

Does Panny bodies correct Olympus lens distortions when shooting in RAW?
Ie. is there an embedded geometric distortion profile in the RAW files or do you rely on your RAW converter's profile for that lens.
