Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8

But can only record 4K video for max of 30 continuos mins only leh

29mins 59sec recording ONLY for European countries models GX8.
Non European countries did.not have this recording restriction.

bigger and priced higher than gx7 when launched.. even higher than em5ii..

Does Dual I.S. kill IBIS ?

According to Panasonic, their O.I.S. lenses correct for two axes of motion, while the sensor shift mechanism can compensate for four, which altogether provides 3.5x better stabilization performance at wide-angle and 1.5x better performance at telephoto compared to the earlier GX7.

Dual IS in PHOTO and VIDEO

This is the most advance m4/3 mirrorless !!!

Amazon US listed as 1200usd. Not cheap...

I like my GX7 - decent video quality, somewhat helpful IBIS, good grip and button layout, but misses auto ISO in M mode, no flash in continuous shooting, and high noise in long exposure.

GX8 seems to have a better EVF (no rainbow, larger, higher eye relief), video at 4K, DFD AF, Dual IS, but is larger, heavier, pricier, and a exposure compensation dial that has been reported not to work in M mode with Auto ISO. The only OIS lens I have is the new 14-140, so it's a pity there is still no video IS with any of my Olympus lenses or the 25/1.4.

This is still an 4 axis setup. Olympus has the 5th axis but as long as GX8 works well enough, no matter 2/4/5/6 axis, it is a good camera.

I like the articulating OLED screen. With Microphone input port and 4K, it is a winner. More reasons for me to keep my 12-35 instead of getting the 12-40 from Olympus for the video. Shame that IBIS does not work for video else it will be a great camera.

At USD1199 or SGD1799, it is expensive. I will probably get it 6 months after launch from HK at maybe SGD1000-1100.

Can this GX8 shoot at 96fps for slow mo ?

Cannot find in the review leh, so most like cannot ?

Thanks

GX8 FEATURES:
GX8 gain a new Post Focus feature, allowing to select a focus point after taking an image.
(GX8 will fire a series of 4K images at a rate of 30 fps while the Contrast AF and Depth-From-Defocus system shifts the lens to set focus on around 50 different areas).

Autofocus also has a significant boost using DFD (Depth-From-Defocus) technology to speed up focus acquisition to about 0.07 seconds and greatly improving tracking focus. The contrast detect system can also be used down in light levels as low -4EV, as claimed by Panasonic.

I saw many comments on DPreview about how good or bad this camera is. IMHO, this is just one of the many bodies offered.

G series- Pro body good for big lenses and good grip

GH series - Pro bidy and for video users

GX series - Premium styling with big lenses and big features

GM series - Compact styling good for pancakes

GF series - Fun and compact good for pancakes

The GX8 will fit a market where u have a G series or EM1 or EM5 II and still need 4K video in a compact size. Pricing is too high and may scare away potential users.

Currently, Olympus has the following range:

EM1 series - For old time owners of 43 lenses

EM5 series - Pro photo body for pro lenses

EM10 series - Entry level SLR style body.

EP series - Premium styling body

EPL series - Entry level body but not so compact.

I always thought Panasonic got their series right than Olympus although I don't have a Panasonic body until today.

Image Stabilization enters a new age ! Introducing Dual I.S.!

Ok, you can start by buying GX8 then ... lol .. :bsmilie: :gbounce::cheergal::cheers:

It is said that the GX8 may be using a sensor developed by Sony. If it's true then why Sony allows their competitor to use the new 20MP sensor first instead of them using it first ?

Just wondering ...

If they do, they would be launching a m43 camera too. Haha

Heh heh. But I'm am indeed impressed with the 20mp resolution. It's been a while at 16mp.

Personally I rather they improve the DR & ISO performance to match those on the Fujifilm. If it does, it would be really be a game changing. :)
