seems like the GX7 could be a great companion for enclosed events as a stationary camera...

Not bad at all.

If I had to get a 2nd body for more stills-oriented work: GX7 would be nice. Faster flash sync speed (1/320) and higher max shutter (1/8000).
If I had to get a 2nd body for video: G6 would be preferred for the mic input, fully articulated screen, and it's about 30% cheaper.
