Panasonic GF3 to be announced on June 13

Soon...GF3 & Panleica 25mm /f1.4

The lens itself is the major important bit. Finally, a good decent AF prime with excellent characteristics! The Voigtlander is good and great, but AF is still nice.

OMG! What an ugly camera. Would prefer GF2 over this anytime in terms of look. Yikes! ;p

Now if Fuji X100 has interchangeable lens it would be perfect...

Ah. GF3 announced with the old 12 mpx sensor but with the GH2 image processor. Hmmm. No body only package announced yet.

Price seems to be 600+ euro. Wonder if they do the 1:1 ratio. No price in usd yet.

Only problem is that Fuji has historically been an ADHD lemming when it comes to product development.

Wishing for a long enduring interchangeable lens system from them is more a pipe dream than anything else.

Never like GF series since GF2, Panny makes the body even smaller just to accommodate compactness? with zoom lens like 14-150 or 40-150 attached, it is so weird, zzzzz

The GH2 and G3 will support those quite nicely. The GF3 is meant to continue their rivalry with Sony, regardless of anything else.

Don't like it... :( There is a built in flash in the center, which means no hotshoe? Hardware zone reviewed it recently

I never like anything to be small just for the sake of being small, I find that the G1 and E-P1 were pretty good, GF1 as well, but now with the GF3 and the rumored mini PEN, I kinda find it a little ridiculous, even with the NEX it was ok, but seems like they're also bent on making it smaller, and their lens are also pretty big, some bigger than the m4/3 lenses as well :S

looks really ugly!
Sad to say, I have to second this, but not to that extent, it just looks weird

Errmmm.... Isn't that kinda contradictory? There is a built in flash in the center which means no built in flash?

Sorry I mean the center is the built in flash with no hot shoe

I think it's to compete against the recently announced sony c3! It's the miniaturization race now lol. Not mpx!!

But it seems compelling. Such a small body with the G3 sensor and 20 mm or 14 mm or oly 17 mm on it would make a great walk about urban kit. ESP for indoors, clubs, functions etc.

This design seems to be targeting the ladies more than guys (especially those with giant palms).
The GF1 was a very popular choice with ladies in Japan as it allows them to have a DSLR-like function and size of a PnS.
So it is no surprise that Panny would like to claim back this title from Sony especially when everyone seems to be hitting m43 with the issue of a smaller sensor.
So it would be better to vent your anger on the G3 instead, why do they adapt a GF2 hand grip instead of the standard G-series.
If I want a NEX, I would have bought one years ago.

I agree with Benares that the compartment on top of the lens mount does look like a R2D2 pop-up flash similar to the XZ-1.

I doubt Panny will package GF3 with the 20mm but with the 14mm since the demo picture showed a 14mm.
The 14mm is thinner than the 20mm thus giving it the smallest form factor in the GF series.

The GH2 and G3 will support those quite nicely. The GF3 is meant to continue their rivalry with Sony, regardless of anything else.
Looks like Sony has made a powerful enemy? :bsmilie:

Depends on how you read it, does Sony even treat m43 as a competitor?
Since Sony's strategy has always been to cover all bases from FF to CF and now mirrorless systems by throwing boatloads of money into R&D while Panny and Oly still gives me the feel of a garage startup.

sorry for ranting..but i think the designers of the GF3 ought to be shot for coming up with this ridiculous package called the GF3... taking away many essential hardware features (hotshoe, rear button dial, stereo microphones), and merely adding "software" upgrades...then packaging it to sell as a new model

somehow i get a feeling that the GF3 is designed by Panasonic's Washing Machine or Microwave design department!

Yes agree with you. Instead of creating a "mass market friendly" GF3, they should have come out with a new series (maybe call it GM or something like that) and maintain the GF series. Now it seems like a "lose-lose" situation where they lose the appeal to the enthusiasts while not necessary able to capture the interests of the mass market. It's like neither here nor there. Unless maybe the GF1 & GF2 were not as successful as they want them to be, and so they are moving away from the enthusiasts? It's interesting to see Pany coming out with a new model that is going in reverse gear.

Yes, actually i thought the success of the GF1 would spur Panny to move in the direction of enthusiasts rather than mass market... or perhaps it is really the intention of the GF-series to be repositioned more towards mass market, considering that Panny already has the G10, G3 etc to capture the enthusiast market. Whichever the case, I am waiting for a software hack to be available for my GF1 to be "upgraded" to a GF3, so that I have both the hardware of GF1 with the snazzy GF3 "software".

Apple's marketing doesn't care about what the consumers want and their iProducts are selling IMO like hotcakes (iCakes).
So maybe Panny is going towards that direction, not giving a hoot to consumer's needs and hoping it will sell cheap stuff at high price.

Apple is the only company that conceptualize and make it's products easy to use, cannot compare Panny with Apple, its injustice to Apple, LOL
