It's surprisingly fast!

You have a choice to also choose your shutter burst mode, between 2 shots to up to 55 shots, when you depress the shutter button.

Only issue, which is not that uncommon, is that with your len hood on, the built in flash is not high enough to throw the light, resulting in a dark shadow at the bottom of the photo.

Brought it out last night for dinner at East Coast Park and found it easy to use and the photos, using preset night-protrait mode, resulted in pretty nice photos!

can you post some of your night shots?

Went to Funan today and test out the FZ200. As a DSLR user, I find the AF speed very slow. Actually I was thinking of selling my DSLR and getting this but after trying it out, the slow AF is really a deal breaker for me. And after taking each shot, it will take a few seconds to write it into the memory .... Definitely not for taking fast speed objects like flying birds and insects. It struggles even when taking moving people. I was trying to take the people walking in the store and the AF hunts alot.

Thanks for the info.

online forums were praising af was fast hmmm... maybe it is not that fast indoors..

I was surprised too, I was expecting fast AF. I think the reviews might be comparing it with compact cameras and bridge cameras and not DSLRs.

It make sense, apples should be compared to apples, and orange to orange

Just got my new toy last night, and to share with the members, here is the first shot direct from the cam, an hour ago, image only with sizing down for dl.

I think for this price range the quality is acceptable. The operation is very basic and user-friendly.
For people who is not satisfied with P&S or feel that the DSLR is just too big to carry around.
This is my 6th camera in my drybox now and it will be most useful for my traveling and for casual shooting.

Nice, how do you like the AF performance?

Haven't shot anything yet .... but let's be realistic. There is always a trade-off in any cams vs the price. For this $750 with a constant F2.8 x 24X zoom, I don't really expect much.
I think the AF is fast enough for my purpose.

I've been very happy with my Panny FZ series, from the FZ1 to FZ18 to FZ100. ...and upgrading to the FZ200 looks extremely tempting at this moment. I also have to say that Panasonic's Singapore service centre rates as being the very best among all the other brands in my experiences. It's credit to them that all my above FZs are in full working condition.

As for AF speed, when set to centre spot focus, they're just as fast as my DSLR/DSLT however when set to multi point AF or face detect AF, they will hunt just as any DSLR/DSLT would. So I'm wondering if a fair comparison was conducted.

My 10FPS Sony DSLT are impressive in 'machine gun' mode but my FZ100 in 60FPS is in a totally different league.

TO me, the selling points for this cam are:
1. Lightweight
2. 24x f2.8 (I don't shoot with flash) and I'll use this as back up for travel.

I don't call this cam is fantastic cam in term of image quality, AF, etc. but I will say that it is very useful for traveling.
Below is one done indoor, without flash.
To me, ISO above 1,000 is not acceptable, and image quality (indoor or night time) is JUST acceptable.
