Pan GF1 or Olympus E-P2?

Thanks for above info.

even if its made in japan, if its for export outside japan, it may not have the same standards of that of a japanese local set. those in manufacturing probably know this.

Don't think it matters, but here you go...
EP-2: China
GF1: Japan

Unfortunately, it matters to some people. And there is still an element of desirability when an item is manufactured in Japan. So one more additional reason why all you fence-sitters, should just go out and get the GF1. Dun get the PEN. U will be frustrated by it - by the perceived to be slower AF, and the poorer LCD. For me, I love both my EP1 and EPL1. And I love them enough to still buy them even when they are made in China. Would not do anything differently.

So listen to me - GO GET THE GF1!!!! It's a done deal.

I jump from canon to M4/3...now pentax KX...
M4/3 is nice, but need the dslr focus speed, although the GF-1 AF is the best so far in m4/3 setup. a very responsive cam.

You are not going to get married to your GF 1(girlfriend), so doesn't matter where it is made. Japanese products do break down too.

The AF and LCD seems to be problematic to many but i got no problem with it. It's not the best but very workable. Anyway for those who will be using manual focus/legacy/rangefinder lenses then the issue of AF is out of the picture. I sold both my kit lenses and got myself a CV 40mm f1.4. Couldn't be happier to have the convenience and cost saving of digital combined with a more manual and classic approach to photography.

Check this out. First pic is with in-camera filter. Second one with just in-camera adjustment. Both no post processing.

Now that i hear more from you guys, I will not let "Make in China or Japan" influence my decision.

Once again, thanks for all input.

For general photography, GF1 or EP2 is more than adequate, especially if you want to have a light system for travelling.

But if you are a serious shooter, then you still need a proper DSLR. :dunno:

Serious landscape, Street, photojournalist or family or marco - M4/3 is fine.

Serious Sport / fast action or event shoot - DSLR. (at this moment)

m4/3 is a serious camera if used seriously:bsmilie:

I hope you dun see any m4/3 shooters are not serious in the art or photography:) There are serious compact users too.

Agree with JW73. We're very serious! :-)

But quick action events like sports not very useful. The rest is covers everything else Im interested in... yes!

BTW I realise my previous post didn't state properly which cam Im using.

I'm an E-P1 user.

isn't the E-PL1's AF faster than GF-1? (correct me if I am wrong)

I am on 4/3s now, interested in moving to m4/3 but the AF and lens choices are holding me back...

well that's debatable. a serious photographer, knowing his camera's limits, would still learn how to use MF and other focus techniques for sports or fast moving subjects. of course it will be hard for us newbies, but pros would know how to do it.

that's also the beauty of m4/3, people are now learning at adopt rather than just relying on the auto features of their DSLR

Haha! The second day only and I started using the MF more than AF...

Lens choices really a headache, because there's way too many!

I'm searching for suitable legacy lens, then found lens from the 60s, 70s, 80s and the 90s. Olympus OM alone, got so many versions, SC, MC, "Japan" version, "Made in Japan" version. Then got good lens from Minolta, Pentax, Konica, Leica, Zeiss.

Just snap in an adapter and ready to go! No other system can have such great variety of lens, countless. But of course, all MF. If want AF choices are limited.

i have tried ep2+20mm f1.7 with IS on and off, and i found that without IS, it's difficult to get clear image as compare to IS on. Am i right to compare this way? because gf1 is without in-built IS.
If what im comparing is make sense, so i think the IS in-built in ep2 is important to me. My conclusion is correct?

20mm with IS does matter actually, especially if you stop down, sometimes,if the lighting is so dark, f1.7 may not be enough, especially if you want less noise

I was having problems understanding that, until I realize that you actually mean take a slower shutter speed. I don't think the term "stop down" is used for that. Or did I totally misinterpret everything?

Yes, and if you're in a situation where, at f1.7 your lighting is dark enough for you to require IS, good luck with your autofocusing on the EP2.

Stop down meaning stop down your aperture aka making the hole smaller aka making the f number bigger

If you try to set your aperture to f5.6, you would find that even with IS it is harder, with proper holding techniques,IS and a fast lens, you can achieve shots that are "impossible" without a tripod

wat u mean by the AF in EP2? did u mean the speed of AF or the target of the ep2 focus?
