Ownuser TW launches GH2 Battery Grip

The grip finally arrived today. its basically the same as the previous GH1 grip which means the quality is not too bad. No give in the structure, buttons are responsive. The battery covers are slightly more difficult to remove and put back in.

I spent about 110USD inclusive of shipping, direct from their website.

It does show the battery levels for third party batteries BUT you will need to have an original battery residing in one of the battery slots. I have not tried with an external power pack yet. Will update more when I get the chance to test.

I just found out it doesn't take the BLC12 for the grip. Is this correct?

This link says BLB13E battery only?

Just the grip. I have 4 batteries. So dont think i'd need the AA battery pack..

So you paid US$119!
I am also interested. Seems you might be the second one to confirm getting it.
I am contemplating if I really need it.

Bro.. you use the GH2 battery (BLC 12) or the older G1/G2/GH1/GF1 Battery (BLB13?) . Website say use only BLB13...

Bro.. on reading the website again.. i think they cut and paste from G2 model.. in the section on that page where they talk about compatible battery, the model they mention is the MIG- PG2B....

The model of grip for GH2 is the MIG-PGH2B.. : )

LOL like that also can! :bsmilie:

My grip just arrived!! Quite small and light.. Trying it out. Seems comfortable for portrait shooting... Cool..

And it does use the gh2 batteries. Trying One Genuine and one 3rd party batt. Batt indicator seems to work.

thanz for the info....

thanz for the info....

one genuine and one 3rd party batt gave me enough juice for 3 hrs of video... works pretty well.

Very basic operation. link cable connects to the remote connector so that the shutter release on the grip can work.
One "con" is the fact that this just screws into the base of the camera using the tripod screw. You have to screw it on very tight to ensure that the grip doesnt "slide" around. Definitely not a "flush"fit.

But even with the grip on the GH2 is still probably the same size as a Canon 600D. So its still a small and light package : )

Overall I'm pretty happy with it..

The benefit besides the portrait shooting and the extra juice, is that the grip gives more area to hold the camera with larger lenses (14-140 / oly 14-54 mk II) and it feels more comfortable.

eBay. But the batts don't show the battery indicator. Do a search for blc12
