I pick up 24-105 for its reach. Actually I will be getting a copy of 24-70 when I have saved enought for it. I have tried the latter lens, besides the bokah, somehow I find it have a better colour productions.
If you have read reviews that compares between the 24-105 and 24-70, you'll know that it's not really worth it for the 24-70, unless you 'die-die' must go for 2.8. Other than that, the 24-105 beats the 24-70 head down in terms of colours, focusing, reach, etc.
So IMO, not worth gettign the 24-70 unless you really need the f-stop.

Just curious, care to share the links of the websites which mention what you said above? Reach I can understand but colours, focusing? An f4 lens can focus faster than an f2.8 lens?

For focusing, any reason why a f4 lens cannot focus faster than a f2.8 lens? The 85mm f/1.8 lens is the fastest focusing lens Canon has ever built so far. It definitely beats the 85mm f/1.2 L in terms of focusing speeds.
