Overpriced UV filter ???

I walked in a photo store, one of the top 5 rated in Singapore. I was recommended to buy a high class, thin, multi coated 77mm UV filter with a 149S$ price tag. I'm a bit unexperienced with filters, but concerning the size the price was something I had expected.

I got home, found that exactly the same filter was for sale with price tags like 27USD or 18£ (excluding delivery) in some internet shops. I really don't expect that the shops would sell in cheapest rates available but three times as expensive is a bit more than what I expected.

Do you fellow photographers buy your filters/gadgets online becaus of the high local prices or have I just been fooled because of my limited knowledge in filters/prices? Should I get back and complain about this?

cheers, Ville

Well, a lesson learnt for not doing your homework B4 shopping:complain:

I was in your shoe too once b4:embrass:

First, What is the brand name and what model of the UV filter in the first place.

secondly, what is the shop name.

third, where is the online shop you found.

last but not least, it is very important and basic, DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST before make any purchase.

since u already bought it....no point losing sleep over it.

I have the similar experience. I thougth it is still on the high side but I bought it anyway because I do not have time to shop around before I want to use the new Pan 20mm 1.7f lens delivered to from B&H USA.

B+W 46mm UV filter the CP sales person told me is not multi-coated, the price on the box was S$112 and he offered S$90 inclusive of GST. Is it a reasonable price. On B&H was quoted Hoya 46mm about USD47 but I reget did not order together with the lens. If I add the postal cost an order separately it will be even higher than S$90. That is why I ended buying it even I feel it is on the high side.

Any advice? Thanks.

well, just hope that you will learn this lesson well.

always do your own research thoroughly about the item you want to buy, and also the reputation of the shop you wish to make your purchase.
