Overheating when taking video

Are you a owner of an A77 ? ...it seems you are trying very hard to put down the camera (for whatever reasons), are you implying that the 29 minutes video recording time is a severe limitation of the A77 ?

Maybe you can suggest a DSLR which can record video for more than 29 minutes ?

Yo, don't get me wrong, I am not putting the camera down, in fact I do like the SLT A77, but the TS is asking about the overheating issue, so I am just stating that most camera due to overheating issue will not record more than 15 minutes to 30 minutes, but then so dude keep telling how godly the SLT A77 is, can record video no problem without stating it's limitation? Personally I feel this is not telling facts about the camera, so I just have to put facts to the camera on what it can do and cannot do.

Regardless of what camera, it does have it's limitation and some good/bad, that is what camera reviews is about isn't it?

I think we should work with the limitation and enjoy taking photos or videos. Surely the SLT A77 is a good camera, but we can't keep telling people how godly it is, we should be more subjective and tell it's good and bad as well, we are not salesman selling the camera isn't it? I know how we love to tell people how good a cameras/lenses we own but when it comes to discussion we need to be more subjective and not keep praising how lovely your new cameras/lenses are.

As for you asking me which DSLR can record more than 29 minutes, the answer is none that I know of yet, which is a limitation to all cameras so far, if there is one that can, I will seriously consider it, an all in one camera that takes good picture with interchangeable lenses with good video function that can record for around 60 minutes should be good enough :)

wow, thanks, I will check it out, but taking picture with that will feel weird LOL....

But it works well. Supports RAW too, and a-mount lenses with the adapters. so if you need long video as an important prerequisite that's the way to go. Maybe use a NEX as a backup camera, can swap lenses.

What videography requires a single, uncut clip in excess of 30 minutes?

Many.
I did a few straight out 2 hours plus video on speeches. Of course you dont produce a final video that is that long, but you will need continuous shooting to capture all in case you just missed that important bit just after at 29.59.99 mins.
This is also so for all uncontrolled shooting subjects like in a documentary. It's not like in a movie set that you can call "Action", "Cut".
So yes, there are plenty that requires longer than 30 mins.

Then a DSLR is not made for those cases. That's where a video camera comes in handy.

you did say Videography and not Photography right?

Yes, and thus my answer is to use an actual video camera, as DSLR cameras are not designed for that use case.'

FYI I always make a clear distinction between videography and photography. So if I ask about videography, I mean shooting videos. The answer came back with some cases where long videos are the norm, thus I replied to use a video camera for that.

As such I'm not sure what your point is.

Oh boy, here we go again with the personal attack again, and look who is being sarcastic in the first place about the product not out yet, etc....? LOL
When you mentioned your good friend's name I knew we are in for another round of funny stuff again.

Again, the forum is meant for discussion, NOT personal attacks, thank you for call me whatever you like. If there is an admin here, please do something about it.

And also I posted that because you continue to wrote

So I assume someone is trying to tell the TS that A77 has no overheating issue? So I just reference to another review to say SLT A77 "can only record for 29 minutes worth of video" End of story and I am merely discussing, not calling anyone "fools, or whatever", if someone can prove the review wrong, I can always apologies for pointing to the wrong reference site.

Personal Attack? :dunno: i have no idea what you're talking about. you assumed that when i mentioned "Rashkae" that i'm up to attack? gosh... you do know the moderators monitor every thread right? i'm only trying to tell you that while one is talking about something, you brought up a secondary issue that might be conflicting with what the TS was trying to find out.

oh and i'm sure Rashkae explained to you why it records for only 29min 59sec

oh yea i'm pretty curious. you're a new member yet you appear to know so much about me, even though i'm pretty sure i've not crossed paths with you. please, tell me more about this "funny stuff" that i might be up to.

Things that make you go "Hmmmm...."

Let just say my first encounter with Rashkae wasn't a happy one, I just commented on a post http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/sony-konica-minolta/1042825-bargains-deals-sony-a35.html
Then he jumped on me and start scolding/attack me, etc... you can check the link above.
Since you mentioned his name I thought "oh boy, now his friend come and attack me?"

I have always been stressing the forum is for discussion, we should stick to facts or reference to facts when we discuss, share our opinion/experience of camera related things. When I am talking about fact all of sudden someone come to me and call me stupid/fool, sarcastic, etc... really uncalled for nor do I think I deserve this for talking facts and not rumours/hearsay, etc...

And no I do not know about you till you say some unkind things that I don't think I deserved to get and mentioned Rashkae that attacked me before for again, something I do not deserve as well, so I thought you are going for round 2 like the link I posted above, which will become funny when more members jump into this pointless posting that is not related to camera related discussion?

Anyway this should and hopefully will be my last post for this thread since it seem to be straying more and more away from what the TS wants to know.

So far from what you have posted, I've gathered:

1) You don't own an A77 but you are the leading authority on it.
2) 29mins Video recording is a limitation of the A77 ....even though there are no other DSLR/DSLT that can do better.
3) The opinion of people who actually owns the A77 matters not but the reviews from camera sites are words from the gods.
4) Anyone who challenges these reviews gods are not stating facts but spreading rumours and hearsay.
5) Anyone who doesn't share your views or agrees with you are 'funny' and ganging up on you.

Thank you for your contributions to this thread, ...I'm done with it, there is nothing I can learn or get anything positive out of it.

1) You don't own an A77 but you are the leading authority on it.

My Reply: I don't own a A77 but I didn't I say I am leading authority or whatever? I just post what was reviewed by others? When we buy things don't we go read the reviews, etc... before buying? Oh nevermind there might be some that don't.

2) 29mins Video recording is a limitation of the A77 ....even though there are no other DSLR/DSLT that can do better.

My Reply: A limit is still a limit, I think someone already mentioned if you want longer video duration get a camcorder?

3) The opinion of people who actually owns the A77 matters not but the reviews from camera sites are words from the gods.

My Reply: Well, if that person is being subjective, then yeah it matters, if all the things he say is just good words and nothing bad? then something is wrong isn't it? If all your friends will only praise you for all the good and bad things you do, then something is wrong isn't it?

4) Anyone who challenges these reviews gods are not stating facts but spreading rumours and hearsay.

My Reply: Well, if you can challenge facts then by all mean go ahead, how about you use your SLT A77 and do a 40 minutes video in 1 clip? Post it up then people will claim your challenge to be valid and those review are just BS?

5) Anyone who doesn't share your views or agrees with you are 'funny' and ganging up on you.

My Reply: LOL, you amazed me, I didn't say people who don't agree with are funny and ganging up on me, like I said, you can disagree by providing some other reviews by others, etc..... But if you start to call people "stupid, fools, sacrastic, etc..." That really shows the person who is calling names to a person who disagree to his view "slightly less mature than they should be?" when we are just discussing I don't see how calling people stupid, fools, etc... is going to help in the discussion?

I will quote you on this then "Thank you for your contributions to this thread, ...I'm done with it" Hopefully you are really done.

BTW, any mod around, can the mod close this thread? Thanks.

Why do you want to close the thread. I find this discussion very healthy :bsmilie:

Yes the topic of the SLT Cameras having that bit of overheating issue has been around for ages. It pops up frequently.

But yeah. If normal Still Image cameras can work like a camcorder, it would kill off that class of products entirely for the average joe wouldn't it. Then Canon, Sony, Panasonic and other conpanies that produce consumer class camcorders would have to shut production lines wouldn't they? There's no profit in that. Both for consumer and business

But no, i'm not ganging up on you with the rest. And Rashkae being a friend of mine doesn't mean i share his views. Or that i would jump on the bashing bandwagon.
