Outing with Sharing/Education - Feedback

Had a discussion with Feng Wei today, and it seems that the group has covered almost every corners of Singapore. How to take it to the next level of excellence? Besides fellowship, how about education? I noted some of you have incredible photos - either on technique, post production, flash, strobes, etc... I noted JK will bring along his DIY umbrella, and some DIY diffuser, and noted Denis beautiful blog; and many of you have award winning photos. Perhaps in an outing, one of you (the sifus) can take up a topic and share your skill with the team. We need a bit more planning, to get a topic. For those with computer, we may even need a projector. This could be done over breakfast for 45 min or so, before we go out to try some of the learning. Of course we can't do post production on the field. At least we know who to consult.

I find even the flash comparision of 540AF and Metz 58 is useful. We accelerate the learning so much faster.

Just an idea for all of you to give feedback. If it can take off, I hope this will be a contribution to the growing photographic community, and perhaps Emjay or SLR Revo or OP may even contribute to the group...

Hi VanGogh & FW, thanks for the brilliant initiative-we newbies look forward to learn from the Pentax si-fus at such workshops/seminars and, speaking for myself, am prepared to chip in moolah too defray cost of venue & allied expenses.
However, am actually looking fwd to another outing even tho Pentax group has covered many places; some may have either missed an outing or two or newcomers like me have yet to cover the venues previously visited.:cheers:

My suggestion for the next outing is to have ONE topic preferably newbies to suggest (most important to you) to cover within 40 min or so, while sipping a cup of coffee. The previous one at McDonald at Chinatown was great, in the sense that there were enough seats for 30 people or so at the atrium. A venue similar will help. We get a volunteer to attack the topic agreed upon. I can do the facilitation (others may do so too), that's not an issue; after all I have facilitated many corporate meetings. So newbies to suggest 1~2 topics of your choice. Then one will be selected (can't do more now); I will leave that to Feng Wei to do the selection. There may be demo, depending on topic. Venue must be quiet enough; otherwise we will get complaints. I think only money you need to fork out, is to buy something from the vendor of that location. So, let's not be too ambitious for now. I am sure the next outing, more ideas will come out. Remember ideas are a dime a thousands; but executing the idea is the most difficult. I have given 2 dimes!

Free for Pentaxians. For non Pentaxians, they need to buy drinks and desert for all the attendants ;p
Then I got Pentaxian t-shirt leh, considered or not?

Anyway i dun mind buy drinks lah. Just not everyone order beer can already, i won't pok kai.

I think that this would be especially useful... a talkabout session & thereafter a walkabout session to put words into practice. That would prolly help beginners like me to fully grasp the techniques/ideas that is being shared.

I vote this initiative. :D

Good news, first sharing session is confirmed.
Date for the session is Saturday 10 April in the afternoon.
Venue is already secured but details will not be made public as we want to make it a Pentax user only affair. Topic will be announced when the sign-up thread is posted in the coming days but it will relate to post processing.

Great !!!! I will reserve myself for that day :)

Great to hear, Denis ! I'll mark the day.... :)

That's great!
I make myself free on April 10, 2010 afternoon.:)

just as i feared.
i'll be flying off on that day!!

argh!

This is a great idea and very generous of those experienced in photography and learned Pentax camera users. I've just collected my K7 and I am sure the next few weeks will be quite exciting as I learn through the new camera menu and options.

Can't wait to join in.

Darn...it has to be on a day that I can't make it.

Anyway...To all that will be attending. Have a good outing and learning session. Spread the knowledge of what you learnt in future outings.

This is really good, very generous of you guys for sharing. :)

sobs 10 apr i will nt bd in sg.. but nevertheless, taking a traditional shooting outing to the next level is indeed a great idea, and i hope tat i would be able to join u guys after apr 10

Thanks Denis - here we go; the wheel is set in motion. Use of flash could be next - any volunteer? Just a suggestion, let the group eventually find the next, after Post Processing; possibility of Part II, given the complexity of pp. Thanks

Very simply no.
This is an indoor presentation/sharing session open to all Pentax camera users to sign-up to. The session is over and above any monthly outing planned and has a specific topic.
We are currently working out the small details at the moment (room capacity/facilities/programme/refreshments, etc.).
Once the details have been ironed out, there will be a sign-up thread.

wow...
you guys are great.
kudos to the organizers and those volunteering to teach the rest. :)
