Grey sets are not fake.

But it is possible that grey sets are actually factory rejects (ie failed quality control) and have been smuggled onto the market by unscrupulous individuals.

wah that's scary... any true stories you know of?

i hope OP is not doing that lor... if true then i think they will lose customers fast... then close shop here... then maybe their Shanghai wholesale shop also close very soon too!

But it is possible that grey sets are actually factory rejects (ie failed quality control) and have been smuggled onto the market by unscrupulous individuals. Of course, the original manufacturer would not want this to happen, because it will affect their reputation for quality, but there are many links in the supply chain where this could possible happen.

most definately not rejects, if tats the case, then there will b something seriously wrong with the product to produce so many rejected grey sets isn't it? r parallel imported cars rejects too? maybe the factory may hv produce "extras" n sold off fm the side. but tats quite unlikely either. guess it doesnt really matter cause when the warranty expires, it will b just like another grey set..:bsmilie:

I am sharing my past experience a long time ago. When I started out in 1982, all authorised Nikkor lenses had a gold oval shaped label affixed to them saying "Passed". The ones that were parallel imports would spot a gold oval shaped label saying "Inspected". It looks like this is no longer in practice. Authorised or grey market, there is no discernible difference in quality as I am aware. A Nikkor is a Nikkor and you are actually paying more for local warranty. I believe major firms like Nikon or Canon would not consider allow sub-standard copies of their lenses on the market even if they do not provide any warranty as this would simply ruin their own reputation.

Was at OP over the weekend. Hats off to the service...all the sales staff are v friendly & nice & patient...bought a cheap cleaning kit and felt like a king with their serivce & treatment. Cd see their treatment to all other customers in the shop too and everyone was really enjoying their visit & experience. Yes, one sales staff did not speak English but there was no communication breakdown...a little more effort and a calculator to show the numbers sure comes handy!! :D

Au contraire, on some earlier ocassions have been to other shops in the same complex (no points to guess the obvious names), to buy expensive lenses, cam, etc...shabby customer service and I hated every minute that I was even inside their shop! felt like i was in a assembly line...ask for item, buy quickly, pay & get out...terrible attitude & service orientation...but guess they are more established players so .....!

Yes, OP might have grey sets as per many other posts in this forum...but i would certainly go there again & again just for their nice customer service and i would definitely buy too depending on the item & the significance of the warranty (how expi is the item, likelihood of failure etc)

 to OP!

I think you should rethink on what you wrote here........just assumptions of your own personal guesses with no proof at all......:thumbsd:

Btw, ups for this shop. I bought my Pentax K100D from them yesterday, and they provided very good service. English was not really an issue, though when the guy there launches into more lengthy and technical explanations he starts to lapse into Chinese, hee hee.

Went back to ask some questions later on and they were very willing to answer it. Not like some places, you buy already go back they boh chup you. Or boh chup you when you're buying in the first place.

I also liked the fact that the person attending to me was very discerning. There were these 2 customers who just entered and came up to, of all things, the person who was busy attending to me. When there were 2 other people present who were free! (Hope it wasn't anyone here, hee hee) He just quickly directed his colleague to attend to them, instead of just flitting around like some butterfly which happens in some other shops - which would have definitely offended me, since I came first.

wonderful feedback night86mare!! ditto my experience too...i like their easy flow of info...no stress...gloved service staff who are a pleasure to talk to....and they welcome sharing of their knowledge. whereas walking into some of the other (in)famous shops at SLS makes the whole experience so not appealing in comparison. upzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz to good service and to OP!! Hope many fellow CS'ers make it their first choice of shop when looking for stuff...it sure has become mine!

I'm amazed when they told me D80 selling at 1700.

Btw, bought a lens from them and they just give me a receipt. They did not give me warranty card to NSC and they say any problem to bring the product back to them and they'll handle. Their warranty is either to go back to this shop or is international. Is this suppose to be like that? What if their business cannot sustain for one yr then how?

Does this mean shop warranty only? Grey?

I visited OP for 3 times already, each a week. And I got Canon A710 IS with 2GB SD card for 470/ Pentax K10D Battery Grip + Cable Release OEM for 235/ Bowl Sized Flash Diffuser + Sigma 17-70 + Hoya 72mm CPL for 660.

I would say, I am totally happy with my purchases. Not only for the low price but also for their decent service just as what other CSers already said. What I gonna highlight here is their fast response of my ordered item. e.g. The bowl sized flash diffuser, which I emailed them last Sunday to check whether they can make a mass order and bring into the local market. Guess what, they accepted my suggestion and just 2 days after they emailed me saying that they have stock already... Amazing... And for those who are seeking a cheap replacement of "Gary Fong's Light Sphere", you definitely should visit OP now.

More details about the Bowl Sized Flash Diffuser, please refer to my other post:

No choice then, but I think with their attitude, this is one company that will at least survive for a year. Service is a plus, I actually didn't want to get the CPL and SD card that I did from them, but I just got it anyways because of their good service.

This is quite typical in Japan and China.....not so here, but then again some shops are understaffed here.

The good service, you mean? Yeah, I've heard of very much superior service elsewhere, not just in photography shops.. So far Taiwan seems to be very famous for it. Must see for myself first-hand some day.

Not really the problem of understaffing sometimes, I went to Cathay in weekday afternoon, and I got thrown around to various staff members, probably because I was wearing slippers and very slip-shod berms. Wanted to get filter before I go Punggol shoot mar. That day very du lan. :bsmilie:

Ask OP for prices of;

Nikon 70-300 G = $170

Sigma 70-300 APO Macro = $270

Are these good prices?
