r they gonna close the roads fr tues?

Ah no, I'm not sure as I don't drive. It's just that I'll be in the area on Tues and can go scout.

I've played around with my 40-150 yesterday and find that it maybe a bit short (depending where you sitting or located) for this type of shots.... if you have an idea where you located or spot you planning to be, maybe you could practice see if 40-150 is long enough or you could crop also. Set your cam to the highest setting (12mp) and lowest jpeg compression (superfine) so when you crop you wont have much image lost.

Yeah lack of reach will be a problem with the kit telephoto, but since I can't get the 50-200mm (the rental store never replied my email...) I guess I'll just have to make do. Maybe try out a few areas on Tues to see if it's good enough, else I'll just concentrate on the race.
(Even though spidey has so kindly offered his 50-200mm... what if I end up "permanently borrowing" his too? :bsmilie:)

yeah since bro Spidey is willing to lend you his 50-200mm why not give it a try... his was SWD version? just take good care i think his was SWD version hehehe.

What i am worried most is someone might bully you or guys will start pushing and jostling for position you may end up getting hurt :(

Mine is none SWD, I give you my picture la, people bully you, tell them my lens got one scratch, answer to me,hahahahha:devil:

1. Yes, the 50-200mm is a substantial lens and you can beat many other photographers with it to keep an optimal position, just make sure to detach the camera from the tripod or monopod or you may hurt yourself. :bsmilie:

You certainly don't need auto focus for such activities (or anything else). Find a position, take practice shots to focus, and shoot, shoot, shoot.

sorry to gatecrash this thread, e-p1 newbie here.

i have two kit lenses, 17mm and 14-42mm. which one is more suitable for me to start shooting with, considering i am a F1 newbie too?

depending how far you are from the action is, both lens can be use actually... if you're standing beside the road (chicken wire) you can take a good shot it may not be tight shot but you can crop removing extra background....

if you're sitting at the grand stand and further up it's hard to get a decent shot with 14-42 not long enough...

I suggest you try testing your gear taking normal cars on the road and see how near you need to be in order for you to take a good shot :)

2nd you need to practice... panning, prefocusing (MF foucsing) and shooting burst...

Actually I do have a back problem as well, got it during my junior college CCA days. So maybe not bringing the 50-200mm (it's almost 1KG!) is a good idea.

As for the jostling, while I'm not an easy push-over, I do realise the physical disadvantage exists so due care will be taken. Thanks for the concern bro. :)

Sure thing, wanna sponsor me ticket and a baseball bat?,anyway, most important thing is to have fun, I hate loud sounds(note, loud sounds, not loud music) so I am unable to enjoy F1s :bsmilie:

You seriously need F1 (help - pun intended!) :bsmilie:

Haha if I had the money, I wouldn't need a sponsored ticket myself. ;)

Yeah fun is most important, pictures secondary. I'm kind of the opposite though, my ears can't stand loud pounding music for long, and while I generally hate the loud exhaust of modified cars, F1 is music... (kinda).

Well, the sponsoring was directed at Alberti :bsmilie:, I love mod car exhaust, but not F1 cars hahaha, wah,OT already:bsmilie:

Well, bringing me is better than a thick monopod, the monopod can be taken, I cannot hahahah, "hit on you"? Serious, hahahah

E-5 is it? :bsmilie: I'm saving money for a rainy day for whatever happens to cameras from Olympus, hope I don't have to use that money for that, hahahaha

Probably no one needs an update but here goes anyway:

On the ground, the 40-150mm should get sufficient reach, provided one gets an optimal spot as near the fence as possible. But even then, the greatest obstacle would be the "low" walls (for cushioning the cars' impact) which for me was still pretty darn high and blocks sight of the road. So I doubt I can get a clear shot of the car if I'm walking about. Note that I only checked out turns 16 and 19 so I'm not sure about the situation at other areas.

From the stands, the 40-150mm is neither long enough, nor fast enough because I'm sadly seated pretty far up and on a straight section, rather than turn. :(

Hopefully others who are going for tomorrow's practice session can report back with their findings.

so is the 40-150 kit good enough? I only have a zone 4 walkabout pass....
