Hey Ejun, just a thought.. do you think pictures reflects the photographer personality in the sense of how a painting depicts the emotions of the artist?

I noticed your photos (Mable and Hazel) are in the line of non-exaggeration, quiet beauty. There is no large movement from the models. Mostly light make-up too. Perhaps you are someone who appreciate simplicity in life, not burdened down by the "wants" of the world but simply happy to live the way you are?

I think in some sense our photos reflects who we (photographer) are as a person. For example Mable, your pics and that of Hycool. She is like a different person altogether. She appeared more of herself in Hycool pics (guess the sea plays a big part, she is probably a sunshine girl) but in yours, because of that style, its as if she reflecting you, the photographer.

My assumption could be wrong. Let I say, I think in some sense, my pics reflects me as a person too.

Anyway, fantastic choice of model in Hazel.

In many ways, i feel this is the reason why we come to love photography in the first place. As those that champion the cause of photography and those with a true love for it would understand, photography is really an extension of not just our personalities but what we want to achieve and what we feel is satisfying.. to many, it might be beauty, to others it might be simple images that are just nice to look at and really, it's hard to explain why we love it but many of us do..

The reason why i shoot people is exactly as you mentioned... it's an extremely satisfying feeling to be able to express yourself without actually being seen in the expression and that's the reason why newer photographers will always think their works are great .. because to them, the process of being involved (from actual communication, choosing models to subtle post production) all earns them a right to claim this very personal "Throphy", and why as we get more experienced and continue to learn, this throphy continues to get bigger and bigger (till the extent u felt your old throphies are really small and horrible).. and it's why photography is really not just a technical skill ... to those that understand it, it's become a means of portrayal, and at times, a means to communicate how we think and sometimes how we feel.

I enjoy the simpleness in things only because it makes the session more casual, it doesnt gives my models a whole lot of things to think about and if I might actually say so myself, all those that have worked with me longer than a couple of sessions all have a very distinct personality but there's a common relation in all, that they are all EXTREMELY sincere models... when you make a friend out of a model, we tend to get more sincere expressions because of the build up of rapport, the establishment of trust and the transition to enjoying the company...

That said, i'm never sure if my models actually enjoyed working with me.... or for that matter actually liked any of the sessions but one thing for sure, when we don't try to be someone else... you'll eventually be recognised and liked because of what we are...(if they actually like you)

Thanks for the comments Oshkosh, it sparks a huge inspiration :)

Glad you feel the same way. Guess that's why photographers will grow to have a distinct style in their pictures. Sometimes, we may go into exploration stage where you try out different styles but at some point when one is more matured as a photographer, the style will settled down too.

Good sharing. Thanks!

Some of the other salvages i'm still working on :)
