Once again, cheaper to buy brand new memory cards

Hi all,

I just got a Sandisk Extreme 32Gb 80mb/s from BB. I suspect it's fake. Dont have "Sandisk" engraving behind. Can anyone advise me? I feel cheated....

log on to sandisk.com..try USA branch..say u got a card..wanna see if its fake/real stuff.

from this on..there will be a exchange of emails between one of the staff and u..finally will as u for the serial number/batch written on the card behind..

from there..they will know.

So to ensure hassle free rma, one is expected to keep the receipts and the VM sticker on the box?

something like that...unless u free to go simlim like 3 times a week...thats wat i went through..

Apparently the debossed sandisk logo can't be used as an indication of a fake card:

So I emailed SanDisk for a conclusive confirmation on these cards. I send them pictures and the serialnumber of the cards, asking on information if some SanDisk cards do not have the engraved SanDisk logo and even use completely different card cases. Their answer was as followed:

“Thank you for contacting SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product.
We have reviewed your case and can inform you that your card is an original SanDisk product. The variation in the card case is due to manufacturing reasons.
Thank you for your kind cooperation and for your trust in SanDisk products.”

So should be fine without vm sticker I suppose. But question is how do u know if it's really from kaira? Or just parallel import? Since kaira doesn't stick any sticker on the box.

Since Kaira doesn't seem to publish a list of their dealers (they really should), it might be best to call them to verify your purchase.

Just to clear up any doubts with buying non-VM or non-authorized dealer original Sandisk cards.

I have never owned a single VM card or authorized dealer card. My cards were all from B&H.

RMA is simple, register your product on Sandisk's website, get an RMA number, send your card by post back to HK, only about 5 bucks. Replacement comes in 2 weeks.

If I have time to go down to VM's service office or whatever, I'd rather drop by the damn post office and send it off myself.

I never bought or will never buy memory cards on BnS. There are just too many fake ones floating around in the market.

Well, one thing's for sure, the write speed will never match up on a fake one. Just bring your camera and do some testing on the spot. One guy on BnS was selling a fake one. I tested it against my original card, RAW burst couldn't even do half my original.

When the prices are too good to be true, it's probably is a fake. You just have to diligent enough to test it.

It's not the same. You still got to pay $5 for postage. If u buy from local distribution, you go to local office and get it changed free

What camera are you using and do you have another extreme card?

Well, at least I learnt something today. Appreciate the convenience if it's replaced on the spot. But if they were going to RMA the piece for you without a replacement, like I said, I'll just do it myself.
